Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City Betting Preview – 09/04/2019

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham will welcome Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Tuesday night as the pair meet in the quarter finals of the Champions League at 8 o’clock. The two teams have contrasting aims domestically, with City targeting their second successive league title while Spurs are battling it out with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United for top four. The hosts will be looking to get their first victory over the Sky Blues since October of 2016, with four City wins and one draw in the last five encounters between these two.

Tottenham’s form has been inconsistent over the last few weeks, winning twice, losing twice and drawing once over the last five games in all competitions. After playing out a stalemate in the North London derby, in which they were rather lucky to earn a point from, Spurs then confirmed the elimination of Borussia Dortmund from the Champions League with a 0-1 away win and a 0-4 aggregate victory. However, Their league form took a hit immediately after that fixture as four days later Southampton beat them by two goals to one after Harry Kane had given his side the lead, and after the international break they were on the wrong end of the result as Liverpool ran out 2-1 winners in dramatic fashion. Spurs won their most recent clash versus Crystal Palace, and Bet365 have them to make it two wins in a row at 31/10.

Star striker Kane has netted seventeen times in the league this season and five in the Champions League, though he has not fund the net in his last two appearances for the club. Paddy Power have Kane to find his scoring touch in this one at 5/1. Behind him on the charts is Heung-Min Son with twelve, while Lucas Moura is third on the leaderboard with seven. In terms of creating goals, it is Christian Eriksen who has provided the most as the Danish international can boast eleven for the campaign, six more than second placed Son. Tottenham have scored in each of their last five outings, with over 2.5 goals in two of their last three, and Paddy Power have over 2.5 goals at 6/10.

Sergio Aguero Manchester City

Manchester City have looked virtually unstoppable at times this season and have come out victorious (including penalty shoot-outs) in their last fourteen matches. Following a 7-0 demolition of Schalke in the Champions League in mid March, City then came from behind in the FA Cup upon their trip to Swansea City in a match which finished 2-3 in their favour thanks to a late Sergio Aguero striker. A solid 0-2 away victory over Fulham came after the international break, and succeeding that result was another win by two goals to nil, this time against relegation battlers Cardiff City. In their last fixture, Manchester City beat Brighton by a solitary goal to advance to the FA Cup final. Bet365 have City to make it fifteen wins on the bounce in this one at ⅘.

There have been under 2.5 goals in each of City’s last three matches, and Paddy Power are offering odds of 6/5 for that statistic to run into its fourth match here. Despite their lack of goals recently, City still have some real threats up front in Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane as the trio have notched a combined total of forty-three goals up to now. Paddy Power have Sterling to score in this one at 5/1, and with the attacker having not found the net in his last four appearances at club level he needs to hit the net sooner rather than later. On the assists leaderboard, it is Leroy Sane and Sterling who sit at the summit with nine each, two ahead of fellow forward Aguero.
