Watford vs Chelsea

The final game on Boxing Day sees Watford take on Chelsea at Vicarage Road. The Hornets will be looking to cause an upset here after beating West Ham on the road last time out, while Chelsea are aiming to bounce back from a disappointing defeat to Leicester City from Saturday.

Watford produced one of the more surprising results of the weekend in the Premier League, picking up a 2-0 victory away to West Ham United at the London Stadium. West Ham had won four games in a row in the Premier League coming into the contest, but goals from Troy Deeney and Gerard Deulofeu saw them pick up a hard-fought three points on the road. Watford have now picked up seven points from their last three games in the Premier League, having also beat Cardiff last weekend and were able to hold Everton to a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park. A Watford victory on Wednesday evening can be backed at 17/4 with Bet365.

Currently seventh in the Premier League heading into this weekend, Watford boast the tag of ‘best of the rest’ in the top flight at present. The middle section of the Premier League table has been so tight that a positive stretch of three or four games can be enough for a team to make a quick rise and Watford have certainly been the beneficiaries of that fact this term. Javi Gracia has performed well as manager and has seen his team perform well going forward in recent weeks, scoring seven goals in their last three games in the Premier League. In their last two wins at home they have scored six times, although both of those have come against struggling sides in Huddersfield and Cardiff.

Chelsea have now dropped 11 points behind Liverpool in the Premier League table, putting their hopes of competing for the title into serious doubt. The gap between the clubs grew greater on Saturday afternoon, as the Blues were beaten 1-0 by Leicester City at Stamford Bridge thanks to Jamie Vardy’s single goal in London. It was another disappointing performance from Maurizio Sarri’s side, who have now lost two of their last four matches in the Premier League, having also fallen to a defeat against Wolves at Molineux. Only goal difference keeps them in the top four coming into Boxing Day, with fellow Europa League side Arsenal now joining them on 37 points.

Sarri will be expecting a response from his side in this contest and he has generally got it so far, having seen his team avoid back-to-back defeats in the Premier League throughout this season, though they have lost three of their last six. Away from home, they have lost two of their last three and will be keen to return to the form which saw them win four of their first five games on the road this season. Eden Hazard has been playing through the middle in recent weeks and has been productive for his team, scoring twice and providing five assists in his last six appearances for the team. He is available at 4/1 with Betfair. To open the scoring in this game.
