West Brom vs Brentford

Two of the pre-season promotion candidates in the Championship meet at the Hawthorns in a Monday evening match under the lights as West Brom take on Brentford. The Baggies are going well at the moment in the division in fifth, whilst Brentford have failed to live up their billing and find themselves in 18th. The tie should be a cracker against two sides more than capable of beating one another on their day and another narrative in the fixture will be the fact the teams have not met since 2003. It was West Brom who won that tie 4-0 in the corresponding match and they lead the head-to-head meetings 2-1 and 15 years later both teams will need the three points for contrasting reasons.

West Brom might’ve been on the end of what seemed to be a defining relegation last season for all of the wrong reasons in the Premier League, but Darren Moore’s side have ceased the opportunity to see this term as a rebuild and their current league position in the Championship has them set for a run at an instant return to the top-flight. The Baggies take on struggling Brentford at their home ground on Monday and three points, which would take them back into the automatic promotion spots, is 10/11 with Bet365. The former Premier League regulars have been beaten just twice at home all season and their price looks an attractive one, but a draw at 27/10 with Unibet also looks a good price considering the magnitude and expected nerves of the home side.

Moore’s side have won their last three, but all of those games have ended with both teams scoring in the tie and that is a bet we like here at 1/2 with Unibet. Spearheading the home attacks will be none other than Jay Rodriguez. The striker has had a tough few years with injuries, but nine goals this term suggests the talisman is back to his best and his odds of 11/2 to score first with Sky Bet seem reasonable. Dwight Gayle will also be hoping to get in on the act and he is favourite to score first here at 9/2 with Betfair, whilst Harvey Barnes at 17/2 with Paddy Power to grab the first goal is also a bet we like the look of.

Brentford were going well under manager Dean Smith after eight games of the new season, but his decision to depart the London-based club to join Aston Villa seems to have been a bitter pill to swallow for the Bees and their poor run of games, as well as their current position of 18th in the table is evidence of just that. Three-straight losses in the league has summed their campaign up so far and they certainly need a win here to propel themselves away from the dreaded drop zone. Brentford are the underdogs at 13/10 with Betway and after their last three matches have ended with over 2.5 goals – we like that bet at 3/5 with William Hill. Thomas Frank’s side last two wins have been via a 2-0 score-line and despite being the underdogs, Brentford certainly have the players capable to achieve the same score here. The 2-0 win for Brentford is a huge price at 25/1 with Bet Victor, whilst under 2.5 goals is 11/8 with Unibet.

Neal Maupay will be the man looking to not only add to his tally in what has been a fantastic season for the Frenchman, but to also score a goal or two to get his side back on the right track. The talisman has two goals from his last three games and after scoring 14 goals this season, Maupay is a great bet at 11/2 with Paddy Power to score first here. Other threatening forwards in Brentford’s side include Ollie Watkins, who is 7/1 with Ladbrokes to score first and Sergi Canos, who is a huge 21/2 with Bet Victor. Brentford double chance at 5/6 with Betfair might be a bet worth looking at, whilst Maupay to score two or more is 17/2 with Betfred.
