Who makes England’s plane to Russia…?

England

With the latest international break set to commence this weekend there’s plenty of discussion going on as to who should be awarded with a seat on the plane to Russia. After a few unexpected inclusions in the latest squad for the upcoming friendlies, we have looked at the potential players who could be included in the final squad for the World Cup next summer.

Ashley Young – 5/1 to make England’s World Cup squad with SkyBet!

After featuring very little in the last two seasons for Man Utd, Ashley Young has become a key member of Jose Mourinho’s team this season. Young has slotted in at left-back and has seven appearances to his name so far this campaign. United have struggled to fill the gap at left-back which was left when Patrice Evra left the club a good number of years ago. Could Ashley Young be the answer for United’s persistent left-back problem? If Young can continue to get first team action at United, then the converted full-back has every chance of being a useful member of the England squad. Since Ashley Cole fell out of favour for England, there hasn’t been a consistent player in the left-back role. The three lions have experimented over the recent years with the likes of Ryan Bertrand, Luke Shaw and Aaron Cresswell also getting a few caps to his name. Southgate has spoke of his desire to play with attacking full-backs in his team, which would make Young a solid addition to the World Cup squad. Southgate said “Young’s performances warrant a recall,” he added. “We want to play with wing-backs – I think it’s a role he can perform, left or right, very well. He’s played very well for Manchester United.

Tammy Abraham – 10/3 to make England’s World Cup squad with SkyBet!

Tammy Abraham is currently on loan at Swansea from Chelsea and has had an impressive start to the Premier League season in South Wales. Abraham, still only 20 years old, has been in good form since making the loan switch, scoring five goals in 13 appearances. The striker is one of three players who are yet to receive their first England caps to be called into Gareth Southgate’s squad for the double-header against the top two ranked teams in the world.

“I just want to go out and show the world what I’m truly made of,” he said.

“I feel like I’m ready but it won’t be easy,” Abraham told a news conference. “I just have to keep proving to the manager in training and showing why he picked me and just keep working as hard as I can.”

The striker clearly has a hunger about him and will be eager to impress in the friendlies in his bid to make the World Cup squad.

Southgate has spoken on record about how he intends to include young players in his squad, looking at moulding them into first team players for the future. Southgate said “Generally speaking, we want to look at younger players, and develop the team, but I’ve always said if a more senior player is playing well and warrants the call-up, we should include them.”

With comments like that from the manager, it must give great encouragement to players like Abraham to come into the team and impress.

Jack Cork – 5/1 to make England’s World Cup squad with SkyBet!

Due to the injury crisis currently affecting the England camp, Jack Cork has received a late call up to the squad. The 28-year old has been a fundamental part of Burnley’s Premier League success this season with the midfielder yet to miss a minute of action in the league so far this season.  Cork has represented England at every level from under-16 to under-21 and also represented Great Britain at the 2012 London Olympics while playing for Southampton. Cork is yet to receive an England senior cap. If the midfielder can impress Southgate he could be a great addition to the squad. Cork is playing week-in-week-out in a Burnley squad that is currently going from strength to strength under Sean Dyche. If Cork can replicate his club levels onto the international scene, England could have found a hidden gem.
