Anthony Joshua welcomes Deontay Wilder interest

Anthony Joshua has reaffirmed his interest in fighting Deontay Wilder, after the American’s promoted Shelly Finkel confirmed the ‘Bronze Bomber’ was eyeing the fight.

WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion Joshua is currently looking to seal an opponent for an April 13 date at Wembley Stadium, with Wilder being at the top of his list of potential opponents.

The American controversially drew to Tyson Fury in Los Angeles on Saturday night, despite many believing that the Gypsy King should’ve won the fight. A rematch may well be ordered by the WBC, but Wilder’s camp say they could turn to Joshua next.

“We’re very interested in the fight,” Finkel told Sky Sports. “If he wants to be professional and keep it in a private discussion, I’m open to it.

“If everything is in the paper, I have no desire to discuss anything, and let him go fight who he wants.”

Joshua has since responded to their interest, posting on Twitter: “What took this fool so long? Like we ain’t been interested?!! Anyway well done Fury!

“They wanted to get you because they assumed you was finished!! I’ll give you a fair one when you’re ready! Either one of you!”

Matchroom Promoter Eddie Hearn has previously stated that the identity of Joshua’s next opponent at Wembley will be revealed before the new year, with the likes of Dillian Whyte and Oleksandr Usyk both possibilities if the Wilder deal isn’t agreed.
