Game of Thrones: The latest odds ahead of season eight

The build up to the final season of Game of Thrones is beginning to heat up. HBO dropped their first teaser trailer for the hit show a few weeks ago, whilst on social media there is plenty of talk about the upcoming series.. It is fair to say that the teaser sent the shows huge number of fans excitement into overdrive, with many studying the limited pictures in it for any clues as to what may happen in the final few episodes. Season eight will officially be released in April this year, and those who like a flutter may be checking out the odds for what will happen in the show with plenty of markets available.

We have taken a look at some of the most interesting markets, and studied the odds ahead of the final season of Game of Thrones.

Who Will Rule Westeros?

The main betting currently with Sky Bet is the ‘Who Will Rule Westeros’ market. This is essentially who will be King or Queen of the fictional land by the time the last episode of the series finishes.

The current favourite is Bran Stark who is odds on at 8/13 with Sky Bet and best priced at 11/10 with William Hill. Following him is his older brother/cousin (if you watch the show you will understand) Jon Snow who is 11/2 with Sky Bet to sit on the throne. Any child of Snow is in third place at 8/1, the Nights King is 9/1 whilst Danaerys Targaryen is priced at 10/1 with Sky Bet, significantly higher than most other bookmakers who have her between 4/1 and 6/1.

The person who currently occupies the throne, Cersei Lannister is way out at 25/1 with Sky Bet to retain it throughout the next season until the end. Bookmakers obviously think that the troubled Queen will be usurped at some point.

Least like to sit upon the throne according to Sky Bet are Gilly and Hot Pie, both of whom are well out at 500/1. The only person less likely than them to win is Ed Sheeran, who is 1000/1 in a nod to his cameo appearance in an earlier season.

Who Will Die?

Another market which is offered by both Sky Bet and BetVictor is which characters will die in season eight of Game of Thrones. It’s not looking good for the current ruler of the Seven Kingdom’s Cersei Lannister who is priced at 1/50 to die in the series, whilst things also look bleak for her ally Euron Greyjoy who is 1/33 not to see it through.

As for some of the other main characters, two fans favourites Tyrion Lannister and Danaerys Targaryen are both set for the chopping block according to bookmakers with them being odds on to die. Tyrion’s brother Jaime also looks set for a sticky end with his price to die being out at 1/12, whilst the odds are close with regards to Sansa Stark’s fate with her being 8/15 to die and 11/8 to survive.

It looks a lot better for Sansa’s sister Arya Stark though who is 1/4 to still be alive come the end of the season, 11/4 to die. Jon Snow is also fairly safe at 2/5 to live – he has of course already died once in the series and come back to life – but it could be the end of the road for the troubled Theon Greyjoy  who is 1/2 to die.

‘Walking Dead’ Specials

One market exclusive to Sky Bet is their ‘Walking Dead’ special. This is betting on characters who are already dead in Game of Thrones, coming back as White Walkers and being seen on screen. The favourite here is Hodor, the giant who protected Bran Stark on his journey north of the wall until season six. He was killed protecting Bran and hasn’t been seen since he famously ‘held the door’. You can back him at 5/4 to be seen as a White Walker in season eight.

Stannis Baratheon is second favourite at 3/1, he was killed by Brienne of Tarth at the end of season five whilst the evil king Joffrey Baratheon isn’t likely to show up according to the bookies. He is way out at 33/1 to be seen as a White Walker.
