Glastonbury 2020 odds: Who are the favourites to headline?

Glastonbury 2020 headliner odds predict Elton John & Fleetwood Mac

Glastonbury 2019 is now over, with the curtain coming down on another memorable weekend at Worthy Farm.

We saw the likes of Stormzy, The Killers and The Cure own the Pyramind headline slots, with support from artists such as Janet Jackson, Liam Gallagher and George Ezra. Meanwhile there were other iconic moments including rap artist Dave getting a teenage fan in a PSG shirt on stage to perform alongside him for song ‘Thiago Silva’ and pop singer Lewis Capaldi mocking Noel Gallagher upon his entrance.

Co-organiser Emily Eavis has already described 2019 as the “best yet”, but bookmakers are already looking ahead to the 2020 edition of the famous music festival which will be celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Sky Bet have released a market for who will headline the Pyramid Stage for next years festival, with two major stars currently named as the favourites. Elton John and Fleetwood Mac are both sitting at the top of the market with odds of 6/4, closely followed by Coldplay who are priced at 5/2.

Surprisingly Elton has never headlined Glastonbury before, but with him on his farewell tour before stopping for good could he be given a last hurrah on one of the most famous stages in music? He’d make an excellent headliner and it would be some way for him to bow out.

Fleetwood Mac have also never taken up a headline slot at Worthy Farm, but are rumoured to do it almost every year and the early betting suggests that it will be the same again ahead of 2020. Eavis has been keen to get hold of them for a while and in a recent gig at Wembley the band said they would be playing a muddy festival next year – could it finally happen?

Could Fleetwood Mac finally become Glastonbury headliners in 2020?

Paul McCartney, Blur & Arctic Monkeys also potential Glastonbury 2020 headliners

Looking beyond the favourites, there are plenty of other big name artists with relatively short odds to headline Glastonbury 2020.

Paul McCartney is the fourth favourite according to the odds, with a price of 3/1 on offer for the former Beatles star to perform. He last performed in 2004 but the event’s founder Michael Eavis has already strongly teased his return next year. He told the BBC: “Paul’s on good form at the moment. [He’s coming here] hopefully for the 50th. Don’t make a big thing of it though, will you?”

The 1975 are also in with odds of 3/1, followed by Sheffield rockers Arctic Monkeys and the legendary Blur, both of whom are priced at 7/2 to top the bill next year. Alex Turner’s band have headlined Glastonbury twice before, in 2007 when they were just at the beginning of their meteoric rise and again in 2013 as they were promoting their fifth album AM. Their sound has changed since their last outing, with Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino getting mixed reviews, but there is no doubt that they would be a popular band to headline.

Blur would also be popular, with plenty of people having suggested that the set Damon Albarn and the rest of the band performed in 2009 at the festival was up there with the best of all time.

Other major acts close to the top of the betting include Madonna at 4/1, The Smiths at 9/2 and even Oasis at 7/1. An interesting price is Pink Floyd at just 8/1, with Emily Eavis having previously ruled them out of the running.

Glastonbury Arctic Monkeys

Arctic Monkeys first rocked the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury in 2007, could they return for the 50th anniversary festival in 2020?
