LISTEN: Barry Hearn says Anthony Joshua’s preferred opponent is Deontay Wilder

Saturday night’s WBC heavyweight title fight between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury has well and truly shaken up the dynamic of the heavyweight division.

Through all of the clamour for a rematch between the Gypsy King and Bronze Bomber, it’s easy to forget that the golden boy of British Boxing, Anthony Joshua, has Wembley Stadium booked for a title defence on April 13.

The identity of Joshua’s next opponent is yet to be revealed, with the 29-year-old waiting potentially to discover who will be next to challenge him for his four belts. Wilder, Fury, Dillian Whyte, Dereck Chisora and Oleksandr Usyk have all been tipped as contenders.

However, Barry Hearn has revealed who Joshua’s preferred opponent is, claiming that AJ has his sights set on a Wembley showdown with American Wilder in the UK as he looks to become unified heavyweight champion of the world.

Much of that will of course depend on whether the WBC orders a rematch between Wilder and Fury, which suddenly becomes a lot bigger than the original fight, particularly if it comes to the UK.

Listen below as Hearn makes the claim that Joshua is after Wilder, but would also be open to fighting Fury in the near future.
