Los Angeles Chargers @ New England Patriots Betting Preview – 13/01/2019

Los Angeles Chargers @ New England Patriots

The Los Angeles Chargers travel to Gillette Stadium on Sunday to face Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs. The Patriots are currently tied in second place for the most SuperBowl wins with five and will be looking to tie with the Steelers who are currently the most winningest franchise in NFL history with six Super Bowl titles.

The last time these sides met in the post-season was in 2007 in the AFC Championship game. The New England Patriots beat the then San Diego Chargers, 21-12 with Tom Brady at quarterback like they will have once again on Sunday.

Recent Form

The Patriots clinched a first-round bye in their previous NFL game against the New York Jets with a 38-3 victory. Brady had three first-half touchdown throws as he lead New England to yet another first-round bye.

Brady had four total touchdowns against the Jets as well as 250 passing yards on 24/33 throwing. Sony Michel rushed for 50 yards on 14 carries and Julian Edelman had one receiving touchdown and 69 yards on five receptions.

The Los Angeles Chargers were involved in an extremely close matchup against the Baltimore Ravens in the wild-card round. The Chargers managed to sack Lamar Jackson seven times as they defeated the Ravens 23-17. The Chargers were up 12-0 going into the half after an incredible defensive display, Baltimore gave it their best shot at a second-half comeback but they were not able to do so.

Philip Rivers wasn’t able to pass for any touchdowns nor did he throw any interceptions, the quarterback had 160 passing yards on 22/32 throwing, however. Melvin Gordon rushed for one touchdown and 40 yards on 17 carries. Mike Williams lead the Chargers receiving core in yards with 42 on just two receptions.

Team News

Dwayne Allen and Deatrich Wise both had limited participation in practice for the Patriots and are questionable for the Chargers game.

Kyle Wilson, Derek Watt, Melvin Gordon and Brandon Facyson had limited participation for the Chargers according to the NFL’s injury report.

We’re predicting an upset to be on the cards. It’s never wise to go against Belichick and the Patriots when it comes to the post-season, but this Patriots roster really isn’t that great outside of Brady and a few others. This could be their final season a top of the AFC with their roster ageing a rebuild could be around the corner.
