Marcelo Bielsa tipped to rule Westeros in Game of Thrones

Jaime Lannister actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau hails Leeds boss as rightful heir to the Iron Throne

As only days stand between fans of Game of Thrones and the airing of the first episode of season eight, there’s as much anticipation as there is nervousness in the air. The show will go through its final ever series, where we will finally see all of our questions answered, with the most crucial conclusion being the answer to the all-important question: Who Will Rule Westeros?

Bookmakers that are choosing to indulge in the globally recognised TV show see Bran Stark as favourite at odds of 5/4, followed by Any Child of Daenerys Targaryen or Any Child of Jon Snow, which are both priced at 3/1. Sansa Stark, Jon Snow, Petyr Baelish and Gendry all appear before 10/1, but it’s an outsider that’s caught our attention more over the past twenty-four hours.

Sky Bet price Marcelo Bielsa at 1000/1 to rule Westeros in Game of Thrones

Appearing on American talkshow Jimmy Kimmel Live, Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau answered several questions, working as a worthy steward to the show after being a key part since episode one, where he plays Kingslayer Jaime Lannister.

By remaining in the show since its first episode aired in 2011 and seeing so many moral transformations in that time, Jaime Lannister has been one of several characters to drastically divide opinion.

During his interview on Kimmel Live, the Game of Thrones star started talking about how everyone wants to know more about ‘the chosen one’ who will eventually ‘save the day‘, where he went on to tease the audience with an elaborate explanation of former Athletic Bilbao, Marseille and Lille manager Marcelo Bielsa.

He said: “There’s also this thing about a guy called ‘Bielsa’, which is a guy who comes and magically transforms this world for the good. When everything is lost, he will come and he will magically transform the north into this beautiful paradise.”

In response, Jimmy Kimmel joked: “Oh, everyone will be so mad if that happened…That’s the equivalent of ‘it was all a dream!'”

Watched by a lot of Americans who are unaware of the second tier of English football – Kimmel included – Coster-Waldau continued: “Everybody says ‘In Bielsa We Trust’.” He then urged the crowd to chant ‘In Bielsa We Trust’ before explaining what he meant by it all.

After several riddles, the Jaime Lannister actor admitted: “No, it’s Bielsa, the manager of Leeds United.”

Pricing his extremely slim chances of ruling Westeros at the end of Game of Thrones Season 8, Sky Bet provided odds of 1000/1. The larger prices prior to this are unlikely, including Ser Pounce being handed odds of 500/1, despite being the cat to late King Tommen Baratheon.

Odds as large as 500/1 are also gifted to Samwell Tarly’s hapless girlfriend Gilly, and to everyone’s favourite underdog Hot Pie, who is only regarded in the show as working as a baker’s apprentice.

There is an option with the same price as Marcelo Bielsa, Ed Sheeran also handed odds of 1000/1 to rule Westeros in what would be an extremely disappointing end to the show. It’s actually a surprise to see such a close gap between the Leeds United manager and the massively successful singer, as Ed Sheeran previously made a cameo in the show, but it’s admittedly hard to envisage an ending where the solo artist is sitting on the Iron Throne.
