National Television Awards 2019 Odds

It’s awards season once again and tonight the 24th annual National Television Awards take place at the O2 Arena in London. Dermot O’Leary will host the event which sees the last 12 months of British television celebrated.

The show will be shown live on ITV1 from 7:30pm and all awards are voted for by the public. Bookmakers are offering odds on who will win each individual awards, and we have taken a look at the odds for some of the standout categories.

Best Drama

The favourite to win this category with the bookmakers is the BBC’s 1920’s crime drama Peaky Blinders, which is best priced at 5/4 with Betway. Just behind is another BBC programme, Call The Midwife at 2/1 with Sky Bet, whilst Doctor Who, now fronted by Jodie Whittaker, is the third favourite to pick up this award at 5/1 with William Hill. There are two shows which are considered outsiders for this one, with Our Girl priced at 9/1 with Betway whilst Casualty is way out at 20/1 with the same bookmaker.

Best Serial Drama

A big favourite on British television are the soap operas and they fall under the Best Serial Drama award. Leading the way with the bookies for this one is ITV’s Emmerdale, which is evens to pick up the award with Sky Bet. Coronation Street is a close second at 6/4 and it appears to be a two horse race for this category between those two shows. The other two contenders are Eastenders and Hollyoaks, however at 6/1 and 10/1 look unlikely to win.

Best Quiz Show

This one looks extremely one-sided, with ITV’s The Chase currently out at 1/7 favourite to win with William Hill. The BBC’s rival quiz show, Pointless, is a distant second favourite at 9/2 with the same bookmaker. Meanwhile the other three programmes in this category; A League Of Their Own, 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown and Catchphrase are all way out at 16/1 and don’t look to have any chance of winning.

Best Comedy

Another category in which the winner looks to be nailed on is Best Comedy. Peter Kay’s Car Share is out as 1/4 favourite with William Hill with the two nearest competitors in Benidorm and Mrs Brown’s Boys well behind at 6/1 each. The two outsiders in this category are Jack Whitehall: Travels With My Father which is a Netflix original programme and The Big Bang Theory which are both priced at 16/1 .

Best Judge

This one is a lot closer with the bookmakers, with Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams the current favourite. The Little Britain star is 8/11 with William Hill to win the gong, just ahead of X-Factor judge Louis Tomlinson who’s odds vary from 13/8 with William Hill to 7/2 with Betway. Judge Rinder and Simon Cowell are both out at 8/1 with most bookmakers, whilst the latter is as high as 10/1 with Betway. Robbie Williams is the fifth person in the category but looks to stand little chance of winning at 10/1 across the board.
