Super Bowl 2019

Overview

This Sunday at 11:30 pm UK time, the NFL hosts the Super Bowl between the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots. This will be New England’s 11th appearance in the Championship game, having won five Super Bowl’s is franchise history. As for the Rams, they have appeared in three Super Bowl’s and won just one.

The last time these sides faced each other in the post-season was in 2002, they faced each other in the Super Bowl championship game in which the Patriots were victorious.

Maroon 5 are set to headline the infamous halftime show with Travis Scott and Big Boi also expected to perform in front of a sold out Mercedes-Benz Stadium, seating 71,000 people.

Recent Form

In their previous game, the New England Patriots faced Patrick Mahomes and the high-flying offence of the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game, winning 43-40. Rex Burkhead rushed for two touchdowns over the course of the game, including a two-yard rush in overtime which secured the Patriots place in the SuperBowl for the third year in a row.

Tom Brady had 348 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions on 30/46 throwing. Sony Michel lead the game in rushing yards with 113 as well as two rushing touchdowns. Julian Edelman was clutch as usual in the postseason, especially in OT on third downs and arguably won the Patriots the game, the wideout had 96 receiving yards on seven receptions.

The Los Angeles Rams faced the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship game and were victorious 26-23. Like the Pats, the Rams had to fight all the way to overtime before Greg Zuerlein kicked a 57-yard field goal to send them into the SuperBowl for the fourth time in the history of the franchise.

Jared Goff passed for 297 yards as well as one touchdown and interception on 25/40 throwing – despite his poor efficiency, the Rams were unable to capitalise on it. C.J. Anderson led the game in rushing yards with 44, but he didn’t manage to rush for a touchdown. Brandin Cooks led the game in receiving yards with 107 on just seven receptions. Todd Gurley and Tyler Higbee were responsible for the two touchdowns for the Rams.

Team News

For the Patriots, Dont’a Hightower has been listed as questionable as he missed Thursday’s practice session due to illness. Other than Hightower the Patriots should have a clean bill of health.

Cooper Kupp remains on injury reserve as he recovers from a torn ACL, Greg Zuerlein has been listed as questionable with a foot injury.

Prediction

We’re predicting a sixth SuperBowl for the New England Patriots which would make tie them as the most winningest franchise in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers. It’s been said time and time again, but the Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are truly one of the greatest partnerships in sporting history and we see no reason why you would want to bet against that. Expect it to be close though, the Rams are no joke and have some serious offensive and defensive weapons on their roster which would cause the Pats some problems.
