Champions League Final: Man City vs Inter Milan Key Stats, Insights & Markets

Champions League

On Saturday night, Manchester City faces Inter Milan in the Champions League final at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.

Manchester City are looking to win the Champions League for the first time in their history and become the second-ever English team to have completed the treble, which includes winning the Premier League title and FA Cup alongside the Champions League - the only other side to have done this in England are their city rivals, Manchester United back in 1999.

Pep Guardiola’s men have had a superb season, having seen off an unlikely title threat from Arsenal, finishing five points clear of Mikel Arteta’s men on 89 points, before winning the FA Cup final at the expense of United last Saturday as Ilkay Gundogan scored an impressive brace, which included the fastest-ever goal in the FA Cup final’s history at just 12 seconds.

Inter Milan are ironically looking to win this competition for the first time since they won the treble under Jose Mourinho back in 2010. The Nerazzuri have won the Champions League/European Cup three times in their history, lifting the trophy in 1963/64 and 1964/65.

Simone Inzaghi’s men are having a decent campaign, having confirmed their place in next season’s Champions League with a third-place finish, while picking up the Coppa Italia having seen off the likes of Spezia, Atalanta and Juventus before beating Fiorentina 2-1 in the final thanks to a brace from Lautaro Martinez.

Each Side's Road to the Final

Manchester City

City started this season’s Champions League in Group G, which they comfortably topped with 14 points to their name, ahead of the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and FC Copenhagen.

Interestingly, City’s home form has been far superior to their away form in this competition, so it will be interesting to see how they perform at a neutral venue. At the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola’s men have thrashed the likes of RB Leipzig 7-0, Bayern Munich 3-0 and Real Madrid 4-0 while drawing 1-1 in each of their away ties against the aforementioned clubs.

Round of 16: RB Leipzig 1-8 Manchester City

Quarter-Final: Manchester City 4-1 Bayern Munich

Semi-Final: Real Madrid 1-5 Manchester City

Inter Milan

Inter Milan faced a tricky test in Group C, with it being regarded as the group of death having been tasked with advancing from a group containing the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Viktoria Plzen.

Inzaghi’s men crucially earned themselves a 3-3 draw away at Barcelona on matchday four (having beaten Xavi’s men 1-0 in the return fixture) of Group C which meant that if they picked up a win at home to Plzen that they would advance to the knockouts stage, of which they duly obliged and thrashed the Czech Republic outfit 4-0 at the San Siro.

Inter went on to finish second place in Group C with ten points to their name, setting up ties with Portuguese giants FC Porto and Benfica, before playing their arch-rivals AC Milan in the semi-finals, brushing the Rosonneri aside 3-0 on aggregate thanks to goals from Edin Dzeko, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Martinez across both legs.

Round of 16: Inter Milan 1-0 FC Porto

Quarter-Final: Benfica 3-5 Inter Milan

Semi-Final: AC Milan 0-3 Inter Milan
