Bristol City will try their hand at another giant killing this Friday as Nottingham Forest travel to the South West. Both sides have struggled in their respective leagues this season, but a good cup run could kick the second half of the season into gear for either side.

The Robins currently sit 13th in the Championship after 28 games. The Robins have ten wins, seven draws and 11 losses, leaving them on 37 points. City are only three points from the top half of the table and six points from the Play-offs.

The Ashton Gate club have a lacklustre history in the FA Cup. This is the 67th time Bristol City have competed in the FA Cup, but The Robins are still yet to make it past the Round of 16. That appearance in the Round of 16 came all the way back in the 1993/94 season, but in more recent years, City have reached the Fifth Round three times in the last five seasons.

In the Premier League, Nottingham Forest currently sit 16th. In 21 games, Forest have five wins, five draws and 11 losses which leaves them on 20 points, just four points above the relegation zone, with teams below them having games in hand.

Nottingham Forest have won the FA Cup once in their history, back in 1959 and made the Final in 1991 - losing 2 - 1 to Tottenham in extra time. In recent history, Nottingham Forest have made it to the Quarter-Finals, in the 2021/22 season Forest took on Liverpool, losing 1 - 0 to the eventual winners.

Bristol City and Nottingham Forest have met 98 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in 1907. Nottingham Forest have the better record in the fixture with 43 wins in comparison to Bristol City’s 22 wins, with a draw more common than a City win, happening on 33 occasions.

This fixture isn’t traditionally high-scoring, in the last five games in all competitions, only two had more than two goals. Also, in three of the last five games, one of the teams have been unable to find the back of the net.

The New Year’s Day clash against Millwall was an unhappy one for The Robins. Bristol City only managed one shot on target and suffered a 92nd-minute winner from Shaun Hutchinson to give Millwall the 1 - 0 win and all three points.

In the Third Round of the FA Cup, City made the trip to the London Stadium to take on West Ham. The Robins had a horror start with Jarrod Bowen giving West Ham the lead in the fourth minute. However, in the second half, Tommy Conway found the back of the net to grab a 1 - 1 draw and force the replay.

Back in the Championship, Bristol City travelled to Preston. After a goalless 60 minutes, Will Keane grabbed a brace for Preston to give them the 2 - 0 win. The Robins left something to be desired up front, despite having six shots on target, they couldn’t convert any of them.

The Third Round Replay at Ashton Gate saw a big start from The Robins this time. A mistake from Konstantinos Mavropanos was pounced upon by Conway to give City the lead in the third minute. West Ham were down to ten men early in the second half as Said Benhrahma was sent off and City held West Ham to two shots on target to grab the 1 - 0 win.

This was backed up by another big win for Nottingham Forest, this time against Manchester United. Nicolas Dominguez opened the scoring for Forest but Marcus Rashford equalised with ten minutes to go. However, a goal from Gibbs-White just minutes later secured the 2 - 1 win for Forest.

In the Third Round of the FA Cup, Nottingham Forest hosted League One Blackpool. Gibbs-White then scored early in the second half as Forest had to settle for a 2 - 2 draw and a replay.

This replay saw Forest take the 2 - 0 lead, Andrew Omodamidele and Danilo on the scoresheet for Forest. Morgan and Kyle Joseph scored in the second half to grab another 2 - 2 draw, this time sending it to extra time. There Wood secured the 3 - 2 win and the spot in the next round.

The most recent outing for Forest was against Brentford. Danilo opened the scoring in the third minute but a returning Ivan Toney and Ben Mee both scored to give Brentford the 2 - 1 lead.
