Ipswich Town vs Maidstone United: Betting Tips, Match Prediction & Preview

Portman Road hosts Ipswich Town against Maidstone United, as The National League South side attempts a Championship giant killing this Saturday in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup.

These odds are accurate at the time of publication, they are subject to change.

Ipswich are having a good season so far in the Championship, and on paper they have one of the easiest fixtures in the Fourth Round. However, having already eliminated Stevenage, Maidstone are looking to continue their National League form in the FA Cup.

In the Championship, Ipswich currently sit third after 27 games. The Tractor Boys have 17 wins, seven draws and three losses. This leaves Ipswich on 58 points, equal with Southampton in the automatic promotion spots and seven points from top-of-the-league Leicester.

Ipswich have won the FA Cup once in their history, beating Arsenal 1 - 0 back in 1978. That was their only Final appearance and since then The Tractor Boys have only managed to make the Quarter-Finals where in 1992 they lost 4 - 2 to Arsenal.

Maidstone United, on the other hand, sit fourth in the National League South, the sixth tier of English football. In 28 games, Maidstone have 13 wins, seven draws and eight losses, leaving them on 46 points, equal with Hampton & Richmond Borough above them but already 16 points from top spot Yeovil.

On the other hand, this is the 11th time Maidstone have competed in the FA Cup, with their first appearance in the competition coming in 1983. This year's journey into the Fourth Round is the furthest Maidstone have ever made it in the competition, their previous furthest was the Third Round back in 1986.

This will be the first meeting between Ipswich and Maidstone in their histories. Despite the four tiers between the two sides, they’ve both got similar attacking stats this season. In 27 games, Ipswich have 50 goals which gives them an average of 1.85 goals per game. Similarly, Maidstone have 40 goals in 28 games which gives them an average of 1.43 goals per game.

At the other end of the pitch, both sides have leaked goals. Ipswich have conceded 34 goals this season which sees them concede 1.2 goals on average per game. Maidstone have been equally poor at the back with 35 goals conceded in 28 games, giving them an average of 1.25 goals conceded a game.

          Recent Form

In their last six games in all competitions, Ipswich have two wins and three draws.

Stephy Mavididi opened the scoring for Leicester in the first half to give The Foxes the 1 - 0 lead at halftime. Both sides were uncharacteristic in front of goal, with Ipswich only managing three shots on target and Leicester only managing two shots on target. Sam Morsy did manage to get on the scoresheet in the 93rd minute to rescue a 1 - 1 draw for Ipswich.

The next time out saw Ipswich take on a struggling QPR. Despite the gulf between them in the Championship table, neither side managed to find the back of the net. Ipswich had just seven shots, with five on target, and QPR had ten shots with two on target as both had to settle for a 0 - 0 draw.

It was another 0 - 0 draw for Ipswich, this time against Stoke City. Despite the red card to Stoke’s Jordan Thompson in the 67th minute, Ipswich could only manage two shots on target, failing to convert either and having to settle for the point.

Ipswich bounced back in the Third Round of the FA Cup against League Two Wimbledon. A Josh Davison own goal opened the scoring for Ipswich but a penalty from Jake Reeves pulled Wimbledon level. Axel Tuanzebe regained the lead for Ipswich and early in the second half, Harry Pell was sent off for Wimbledon. Jack Taylor grabbed the third in the last minute for the 3 - 1 win for Ipswich.

Back in the Championship, Ipswich hosted Sunderland. Jack Clarke opened the scoring for Sunderland but Kayden Jackson and Conor Chaplin both scored to grab a 2 - 1 win for Ipswich.

Ipswich managed to snatch a late point against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday night as Brighton & Hove Albion loanee Jeremy Sarmiento equalised in the 89th minute having initially fallen behind to a Leif Davis own goal.

In their last five games in all competitions, Maidstone have three wins and two losses.

A Kodi Lyons-Foster own goal gave Maidstone the lead against Tonbridge and Sam Corne doubled the lead before halftime. Neither side could find a goal in the second half as Maidstone secured the 2 - 0 win.

In the Third Round of the FA Cup, Maidstone hosted League One Stevenage. Corne’s penalty in the added time of the first half was the only goal of the game in the historic 1 - 0 win for Maidstone.

A penalty from Luke Coulson gave Dartford the early lead and the 1 - 0 lead at halftime. However, a goal from Harry Kyprianou and a goal from Matt Rush gave Maidstone the 2 - 1 comeback win.

Maidstone took the lead first against Havant & Waterlooville, with Rush grabbing a goal in the 38th minute. However, in the second half, Ryan Seager grabbed a brace for Havant & Waterlooville, giving them the 2 - 1 win.

It was another 2 - 1 loss for Maidstone, this time against Slough Town. A sixth-minute goal from Josh Jackman gave Slough the lead all the way into the second half. A penalty from Muhammadu Faal brought Maidstone level but a goal from John Goddard gave Slough the 2 - 1 win.

Maidstone also take on Punjab United in the Kent Senior Cup Quarter-Finals on Tuesday.

          Footy Accumulators Prediction

Despite their heroics in the last round, Ipswich are likely to be a challenge too big for Maidstone. However, the National League side shouldn’t roll over so easily, making this fixture likely to be a tight affair. We predict Kieran McKenna’s side to end The Stones cup run here via a 3-1 scoreline.
