England vs Brazil Prediction & Betting Tips

England play Brazil under the Wembley Arch this Saturday in an international friendly. Both sides have a big tournament this summer and will be looking for a win to set them up well.

            Date: 23/03/2024

            Kick-off time: 19:00

            Location: Wembley Stadium

The last international break before the summer of the European Championships and the Copa America sees two sides with good shots of winning their respective competitions take each other on in a friendly.

England secured qualification for the Euros this summer by winning their group. Group C saw The Three Lions compete against the likes of Italy, Ukraine, North Macedonia and Malta. In eight games, England won six and drew two, finishing the group unbeaten and six points above Italy.

The Three Lions will be looking to avenge their Final loss in the 2021 European Championships. After a run-in that included Germany, Ukraine and Denmark, England fell at the last hurdle on penalties to Italy.

Brazil, on the other hand, will be competing in the Copa America. The Canary Squad qualified through their CONMEBOL status. The last Copa America, back in 2021 saw Brazil make it all the way to the Final, but losing 1 - 0 to rivals Argentina.

The last tournament Brazil competed in was the 2022 World Cup. This tournament was one to forget for Brazil. The Canary Squad dispatched South Korea in the Round of 16 but crashed out on penalties in the Quarter-finals against Croatia.

England and Brazil have met 26 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in an international friendly in 1966. Brazil have the better record in the fixture with 11 wins in comparison to England’s four wins. However, a draw is also a very common outcome in this fixture, happening on 11 occasions.

In fact three of the last five games in the fixture have ended in a draw, both England and Brazil also picking up a win each. The fixture usually sees goals, as only one team has been on the scoresheet on two occasions in the last seven meetings.

            England Team News

Gareth Southgate has called up a strong squad for these friendlies, a mixture of new faces and the usual suspects. Despite now playing his football for a struggling Ajax, Jordan Henderson retains his place, but Southgate has handed out a couple of first-time call ups to, those being Anthony Gordon, Kobbie Mainoo and Jarrad Branthwaite.

            Brazil Team News

Fernando Diniz has some big names missing this international breakthrough injury. Captain Neymar is still out with a knee injury and is joined on the sidelines by Ederson and Gabriel Martinelli. Since naming his side, Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has also had to pull out through injury.

            Recent Form

In their last five games in all competitions, England have four wins and one draw.

An international friendly saw England make the trip to Hampden Park to take on old rivals Scotland. Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham gave England the 2 - 0 lead at halftime but an own goal from Harry Maguire got Scotland on the scoresheet. However, a goal from Harry Kane wrapped up a 3 - 1 win for the Auld Enemy.

Another friendly saw England host Australia in October. Ollie Watkins scored the only goal of the game just before the hour mark to give The Three Lions the 1 - 0 win, despite having less shots on target than Australia.

Back in the European Qualifiers, England took on Italy at Wembley for the first time since the Final loss in 2021. Gianluca Scamacca gave Italy the lead in the 15th minute but a penalty from Kane levelled the game before halftime. Marcus Rashford put England ahead just before the hour and another goal from Kane secured the 3 - 1 win and revenge for England.

The visit from Malta saw an own goal from Enrico Pepe in the eighth minute to give England the lead. Kane scored again for England with 15 minutes to go to give The Three Lions a 2 - 0 win and all three points.

The last time out for England was against North Macedonia. The trip to Tose Proeski Arena saw England behind at halftime thanks to a goal from Enis Bardhi. The Three Lions could only manage two shots on target and an own goal from Jani Atanasov rescued a 1 - 1 draw for England.

In their last five games in all competitions, Brazil have one win, one draw and three losses.

Brazil travelled to the Estadio Nacional de Lima to take on Peru in a World Cup Qualifier back in September. Brazil limited Peru to zero shots on target, but it took until the 90th minute for them to convert one of their three shots on target, with Marquinhos grabbing the 1 - 0 win for Brazil.

The next time out saw Brazil take the lead just five minutes into the second half through a goal from Gabriel Magalhaes. However, an 85th minute goal from Eduard Bello secured a 1 - 1 draw for Venezuela.

The trip to Uruguay was one to forget for The Canary Squad with a late first half goal from Darwin Nunez giving Uruguay the lead at halftime. Nicolas de la Cruz then scored in the second half to wrap up a 2 - 0 win for Uruguay, with Brazil failing to register a single shot on target.

It was another loss for Brazil, this one cooked up by Colombia. Brazil opened the scoring early in the fourth minute through Martinelli, but a late double from Luis Diaz grabbed a 2 - 1 win for Colombia.

The most recent outing for Brazil was against rivals Argentina. Nicolas Otamendi scored the only goal of the game to give Argentina the 1 - 0 win, as Brazil finished the game with ten men as Joelinton was sent off late on.
