Jose Mourinho's Next Club Odds

Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for a new managerial role following his dismissal as AS Roma manager on 16th January.

‘The Special One’ oversaw 138 matches at Roma, winning 68 and drawing 31 times, equating to a win percentage of 49%, the lowest in his managerial career. Despite this, Mourinho did lead Roma to two European finals, winning the inaugural Europa Conference League trophy in 2021/22 at the expense of Feyenoord, while finishing as runner-up in the 2022/23 Europa League final to Sevilla.

When Mourinho departed Roma, the Stadio Olimpico side sat just four points adrift of the top four in Serie A and the Portuguese coach looked to be building a good squad despite being on a limited budget, having attracted the likes of Paolo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku to the club.

Although some believe that Mourinho’s magic may be fading, surely there will be plenty of suitors for a manager that has managed to win 27 trophies in a glittering 23-year managerial career.

Any Saudi Pro League Side Odds: 1/3

Jose Mourinho has recently been linked with the managerial role at Al-Shabab FC and despite reportedly turning it down, there is the potential that he could end up in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi Pro League is a competition that are looking to attract marquee names and managers, having seen the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema join the likes of Al Nassr and Al-Ittihad, meaning that there will likely be suitors for a coach with as big of a reputation as Mourinho.

Could it be possible that Mourinho will end up at a side like Al Nassr in the future to link up with Ronaldo, after all, the Saudi Pro League outfit likely won’t be too happy about Al Hilal’s dominance of the league, especially after losing out on the title to Al-Ittihad last season.

Napoli Odds: 3/1

Napoli could be a destination for Mourinho, as the Naples club are having a torrid season since their memorable title win in 2022/23.

So far this season, Napoli are ninth in the table, just three points off the top four in Serie A. Earlier on this season, Rudi Garcia was sacked by the Italian outfit after winning just eight of his 16 matches in charge, while ex-Watford coach, Walter Mazzarri has faired no better, winning five times in 16 games.

Mourinho has plenty of experience in Serie A, having coached a total of four and a half seasons in this league, managing to win six trophies while managing Italian sides, with five of these coming with Inter Milan between June 2008 and May 2010.

Barcelona Odds: 5/1

Could Mourinho make an unexpected return to Barcelona having previously worked there between 1996 and 2000 under the likes of Sir Bobby Robson and Louis van Gaal.

Rumours have it that Xavi is coming under pressure from Barcelona’s hierarchy, having failed to impress in European competitions during his time at the Nou Camp - these provide a lot of financial reward for a team in the perilous financial situation of Barca. On top of this, the Nou Camp club are currently sitting third in La Liga, eight points behind shock league leaders Girona.

Having managed to disrupt Barcelona’s dominance under Pep Guardiola with a superb league title win in 2011/23, could Jose become an unlikely hero at Barcelona?

Newcastle Odds: 5/1

Eddie Howe’s position at Newcastle has been questioned of late, despite the excellent work that the former Bournemouth manager has done at St James’ Park.

Despite consolidating the Magpies' position in the Premier League during the 2021/22 season and sensationally overseeing their qualification for the Champions League in 2022/23, a run of just two wins in 10 matches has cast some doubt over Howe’s long-term future at the Toon Army, having seen the club slide down to 10th in the table, 14 points adrift of Aston Villa in fourth-place.

Could Newcastle potentially look at Mourinho to help them climb the league rankings while resting hope on the Portuguese manager to end their 55-year trophy drought?

Chelsea Odds: 7/1

Despite already managing Chelsea twice, winning eight major honours in the process, there is always the possibility of Mourinho returning to Stamford Bridge when taking into consideration the club’s underachievements since being taken over by Todd Boehly.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men may have reached the final of the Carabao Cup in midweek, but, while the Blues loiter in mid-table, there will always be a demand for Chelsea to return to Champions League football from their hierarchy in an attempt to avoid being stung by Financial Fair Play.

Bayern Munich Odds: 8/1

Bayern Munich could perhaps turn their attention to Mourinho following Thomas Tuchel’s surprising struggles while in charge of the German champions.

Last season, Bayern retained the Bundesliga title for a 10th season in a row, however, it was not without struggle, as it took an 89th-minute goal from Jamal Musiala to snatch the title away from fierce rivals Borussia Dortmund.

This season, Tuchel has failed to impress once again, as despite signing the likes of Kim Min-Jae and Harry Kane in the summer, Bayern are lagging four points behind Bayer Leverkusen after 18 matches - on top of this, these two sides have already played one another at the Allianz Arena, with Xabi Alonso’s men earning a 2-2 draw.

With Bayern taking a very un-Bayern approach under Tuchel in signing the likes of Eric Dier and potentially Kieran Trippier, is there the possibility that they would also appoint Mourinho as manager?

Portugal National Team Odds: 10/1

With the 2024 European Championship just around the corner, could the Portugal national team vacancy become available?

Portugal are managed by Roberto Martinez following the Spaniard’s departure from the Belgium national team. The ex-Wigan and Swansea manager oversaw the Red Devils' humiliating World Cup campaign in Qatar that saw them finish third in Group F containing Morocco, Croatia and Canada.

Martinez will be expected to achieve good things with the Portuguese national team with many world-class talents among their ranks such as Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, Rafael Leao, Cristiano Ronaldo and more, however, if Portugal’s Euro 2024 campaign is a disaster, there is a high chance that he would be dismissed as head coach.
