The Best Summer Transfer Announcements Ahead of the 2023/24 Season

The Best Summer Transfer Announcements Ahead of the 2023/24 Season

Here we take a look at some of this summer’s best transfer announcements, with many clubs looking to make themselves a hit in the world of social media.

There have been some very high-profile transfers that have taken place during the summer of 2023, with the likes of Jude Bellingham making the switch to Real Madrid and Lionel Messi being acquired by Inter Miami, however, neither of these have made the cut for this list! Take a look below and see some of our favourite transfer announcements…

Hibernian: Will Fish

20-year-old Manchester United centre-back Will Fish made a return to Easter Road this summer following a successful loan spell at the Edinburgh club during the 2022/23 season, having made a total of 21 Scottish Premiership appearances last time out.

Hibs decided to play on words during the announcement video, as they used a scene from The Inbetweeners' legendary field trip episode to let their fans know the name of their latest acquisition. During this video clip, Will McKenzie became increasingly furious at Lauren Harris' questions while being stuck on a boat with Simon and Neil while being accompanied by a fish.

Hoffenheim: Marius Bülter

Marius Bülter sealed a move away from Schalke 04 on 6th July, following two years at the Gelsenkirchen club where he scored a total of 21 goals in 65 league matches.

The 30-year-old’s announcement video included a clip from last season’s meeting between Hoffenheim and Schalke at the PreZero Arena where the German broke a corner flag following a challenge from Ozan Kabak.

During this video, Bülter turned up with a reconstructed corner flag and apologised for the damage he had done last season.

Rochdale: Kwaku Oduroh

Perhaps an announcement that has gone under the radar is Rochdale’s video for the signing of Kwaku Oduroh on loan from Derby County.

The 20-year-old spent 14 years in Manchester City’s academy between 2008 and 2022 before making the switch to Pride Park last year where the defender has made six first-team appearances.

For the announcement video itself, Rochdale’s media team did some fine editing over Pheonix Nights’ classic ‘Sammy Snake’ scene while also matching up their AI speech to perfection with Peter Kay's character, Brian Potter.

Burnley: Nathan Redmond

Burnley have become the team to look out for when it comes to transfer announcement videos, with the Turf Moor club using a series of classic sketches ranging from The Italian Job to the Teletubbies, however, Nathan Redmond’s video was perhaps a standout.

The 29-year-old joined the Clarets this summer following just one year at Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig and was announced via a clip from Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Burnley: Lawrence Vigouroux

The final submission in this list also comes from Burnley’s Twitter account and also involves British sitcom, The Inbetweeners.

29-year-old Chilean goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux made the switch from Leyton Orient to Burnley this summer, following an impressive campaign in League Two last time out that saw him claim the Golden Glove award while also helping the Brisbane Road club win England’s fourth-tier.

The Clarets ironically used a comedic scene that made a specific reference to their club from the Inbetweeners Movie (2011) to announce the shot-stopper’s signing.
