Chelsea vs Burnley Prediction & Betting Tips

Stamford Bridge hosts Chelsea and Burnley this Saturday in the Premier League. The Blues will be looking for a win to finally take them into the top half of the table, whereas Burnley need a win to take them closer to safety.

        Date: 30/03/2024

        Kick off time: 15:00

        Location: Stamford Bridge

Both the race for safety and the race for European football are hotting up with just five points separating 19th to 17th and eight points separating sixth to 11th, making a win vitally important to both sides this weekend.

Chelsea currently sit 11th in the Premier League after 27 games. The Blues have 11 wins, six draws and ten losses, leaving them on 39 points, eight points behind sixth-place Manchester United with a game in hand.

The Blues have been better in front of goal this season, scoring 47 goals in 27 games, giving them an average of 1.74 goals a game. However, they have struggled defensively, conceding 45 goals and keeping just five clean sheets.

Burnley, on the other hand, currently sit 19th in the Premier League. In 29 games, The Clarets have four wins, five draws and 20 losses which leaves them on 17 points, five points from safety.

The Clarets have been quiet in front of goal this season, scoring just 29 goals in 29 games, an average of one goal a game, with their top scorer, Zeki Amdouni one of the lowest scorers in the league. Defensively, Burnley are not much better, conceding 63 goals and keeping just two clean sheets.

Chelsea and Burnley have met 105 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in Division Two in 1905. The Blues have a better record in the fixture with 42 wins in comparison to Burnley’s 38 wins, the other 25 games ending in a draw.

Burnley haven’t beaten Chelsea in the last ten meetings, with their last win over The Blues coming in 2017. Though this fixture usually sees just one team on the scoresheet, with two of the last six meetings having both teams scoring, the defensive records this season suggest elsewise.

        Recent Form

In their last five games in all competitions, Chelsea have three wins, one draw and one loss.

The one loss came in another Cup Final loss, their sixth consecutive Cup Final loss. This time it came in the League Cup against Liverpool. After a goalless 90 minutes, the tie was sent to extra time. Virgil van Dijk scored in the last minute of extra time to give Liverpool the 1 - 0 win.

In the Fifth Round of the FA Cup, Chelsea hosted old rivals Leeds. Mateo Joseph opened the scoring for Leeds in the eight minute but goals from Nicolas Jackson and Mykhailo Mudryk gave Chelsea the 2 - 1 lead at halftime. Joseph scored again to level the game before the hour mark but a 90th minute goal from Conor Gallagher gave Chelsea the 3 - 2 win.

Back in the Premier League, Chelsea took on Brentford. Jackson gave Chelsea the lead at halftime but a goal from Mads Roerslev and a scissor kick from Yoane Wissa gave The Bees the lead with 20 minutes to go. Axel Disasi popped up with a late goal to rescue a 2 - 2 draw for Chelsea.

Jackson opened the scoring for Chelsea again, this time in the sixth minute against Newcastle, but Alexander Isak equalised before halftime. Cole Palmer and Mudryk both found the back of the net in the second half and despite the late goal from Jacob Murphy, Chelsea picked up a 3 - 2 win.

In the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup, Chelsea hosted Leicester. Marc Cucurella gave Chelsea an early lead and Palmer doubled the lead before halftime. An own goal from Disasi and a goal from Stephy Mavididi brought Leicester level on the hour mark. Following the red card to Callum Doyle for Leicester, both Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke scored in extra time to give Chelsea the 4 - 2 win.

In their last five games in all competitions, Burnley have one win, one draw and three losses.

The visit from Arsenal was one to forget for Burnley. Martin Odegaard opened the scoring in the fourth minute and a brace from Bukayo Saka along with goals from Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz wrapped up a 5 - 0 win for Arsenal.

The trip to Selhurst Park wasn’t much better for The Clarets. Josh Brownhill was sent off early on for Burnley and goals from Chris Richards, Jordan Ayew and Jean-Philippe Mateta gave Crystal Palace the 3 - 0 win.

Despite having 75% of the possession and 20 shots, Burnley slumped to a 2 - 0 loss, as both Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo scored to give Bournemouth the win.

Fofana opened the scoring early for Burnley and an own goal from Konstantinos Mavropanos gave Burnley the 2 - 0 lead at halftime. However, Lucas Paqueta scored early in the second half and a 91st goal from Danny Ings grabbed a 2 - 2 draw for West Ham.

The most recent outing for Burnley was against Brentford. Sergio Reguilon was sent off for The Bees in the eighth minute and Jacob Bruun Larsen converted the subsequent penalty. Fofana doubled the lead and despite a late goal from Kristoffer Ajer, Burnley held on for a 2 - 1 win.
