Manchester City managed to become just the second team in English football history to win the treble last season and could also be the first side to win four Premier League titles in a row should they emerge victorious in the 2023/24 season.
It’s no doubt that current holders and treble winners Manchester City would be the top pick for the most likely outright winners of the Premier League for the 2023/24 season.
City’s title win for the 2022/23 season was their third in a row and their fifth title in six seasons proving Pep Guardiola’s side’s complete dominance in England. Guardiola’s side were nearly unbeatable last season, only losing five games, finishing top of the table on 89 points when they once trailed Arsenal by nearly ten points.
Erling Haaland won the Premier League golden boot and looks to continue his formidable form of 36 goals and eight assists in 35 Premier League games. City may even bring in reinforcements for their ridiculously stacked squad. City are allegedly in talks for Josko Gvardiol, have expressed interest in Declan Rice and have clinched a deal for Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic.
The Premier League dominance and squad reinforcements may make City an even harder team to beat this season and the most likely candidates to be lifting the trophy again in May.
After their closest brush with Premier League glory since the 2015/16 title race with Leicester, Arsenal look to push for the win this season.
Mikel Arteta’s team finished the season five points adrift of Man City, and though they once had the upper hand in the title race, they were just no match for such a dominant side. However, Arsenal’s points tally of 84 is the best they’ve had since they last won the league unbeaten in the 2003/04 season.
With the Declan Rice transfer looking more and more likely, and other transfers supposedly in the works, Arsenal could come back even more competitive. This season’s performance makes them most likely to topple the Man City dominance.
Liverpool had a tough 2022/23 season, but despite a rocky form, The Reds are still the third most likely team to outright win the Premier League.
The Reds won 19 games, drew ten and lost nine games, leaving them with just 67 points. This meant that Jurgen Klopp’s side was four points off of Newcastle in the Champions League, leaving Liverpool for a season in the Europa League.
However, this season may just be a blip as previous seasons have seen Liverpool much closer to the title. In the 2021/22 season, Liverpool finished second to Man City by just a single point, finished the 2020/21 season in third and were finally victorious in the 2019/20 season, beating out Man City by 18 points.
With returns from injury and new acquisitions, Liverpool could very much be back to their best, and if so they’re definitely one of the most likely to lift the trophy.
After a rough start to the season, Erik ten Hag’s philosophy finally settled in with the United players as they finished in a positive third place, though still 14 points from Manchester rivals City.
In the end, United finished the season with 23 wins, six draws and nine losses, a place in the Champions League and a League Cup win. This can form a solid basis for a proper title push this season along with some decent signings and preparations.
Amongst others, United are linked to Kim Min-Jae, centre-back for Serie A winning Napoli, Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos and possibly the biggest signing of the summer if pulled off, Harry Kane.
All these signings and a fresh start with an ingrained philosophy could make United serious, serious contenders.
It wasn’t quite the season new owner Todd Boehley would’ve hoped for when he took over mid-season. Manager changes, underperforming players and no European football next season make the 2023/24 season all the more important for Chelsea.
Chelsea finished 12th, their lowest finish in the Premier League since the 1993/94 season where they finished 14th and a shocking 45 points behind Man City.
The Blues seem set on Mauricio Pochettino for a long-term answer to the manager question, and are looking to further reinforce in the summer. If Pochettino can work his magic and get in the right players, there’s no reason Chelsea can’t compete for the title.
Newcastle showed their real potential last season, using their new ownership to invest into new players and a long-term manager, a combination that is proving pretty successful.
The Magpies are in the Champions League for the first time in nearly 20 years which could pose a problem for a potential title push this season. European football introduces a bunch of extra games that can be hard to manage, especially for a team who haven’t had to juggle midweek games.
If Newcastle are able to navigate the extra strain on the team, The Magpies are a definite threat at the top of the table.
A season to forget for Tottenham sees them out of Europe for the 2023/24 season after an eighth-place finish this season.
Spurs could only manage 60 points this season with 18 wins, six draws and 14 losses. Though just one point from the Europa Conference League Qualifiers, this may be a positive thing as it’ll mean less strain on players. However, this may mean that this will impact their ability to successfully recruit this summer without the lure of European football.
This season without other distractions may mean Tottenham can compete at the top level in the Premier League.
