Tottenham vs Luton Town Prediction & Betting Tips

Luton Town make the trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to take on Spurs this Saturday in the Premier League. Tottenham will be looking for a win to help in their pursuit of Aston Villa and Champions League football whereas Luton need the three points in their fight for survival.

          Date: 30/03/2023

          Kick off time: 15:00

          Location: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Luton find themselves outside of the relegation by virtue of Nottingham Forest’s point deduction, and need a win to put some more breathing room between them and the drop zone. Tottenham, however, will be looking to get back to the race for Champions League football after the international break.

Tottenham currently sit fifth in the Premier League after 28 games. Spurs have 16 wins, five draws and seven losses, leaving them on 53 points, six points ahead of Manchester United but three points behind Aston Villa in fourth.

Spurs have been amongst the goals this season, scoring 59 goals in 28 games giving them an average of 2.11 goals a game. At the other end of the pitch, Tottenham have been average, conceding 42 goals and keeping six clean sheets.

Luton, on the other hand, sit 17th in the Premier League. In 29 games, The Hatters have five wins, seven draws and 17 losses which leaves them on 22 points, one point above the relegation zone.

The Hatters have performed far better in attack than their league placement would suggest. In 29 games, Luton have scored 42 goals, an average of 1.45 goals a game. Defensively, however, The Hatters have struggled. Luton have conceded 60 goals and have kept just two clean sheets.

Tottenham and Luton have met 81 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming in the FA Cup back in 1894. Spurs have the better record in the fixture with 34 wins in comparison to Luton’s 22 wins. In fact, a draw is more common in this fixture than a win for The Hatters, happening on 25 occasions.

Other than the meeting earlier in the season, where Tottenham won 1 - 0, Luton and Tottenham haven’t played each other since 1992. However, before that Luton hadn’t beaten Tottenham since 1987.

Rob Edwards has a laundry list of injuries. Thomas Lockyer, Amari’i Bell, Marvelous Nakamba, Elijah Adebayo, Dan Potts, Josep Johnson, Jacob Brown and Pelly Mpanzu all out this weekend. However, Alfie Doughty, Gabriel Osho, Sambi Lokonga and Mads Andersen could return to the squad.

          Recent Form

In their last five games in all competitions, Tottenham have three wins and two losses.

The visit from Brighton saw The Seagulls with a 1 - 0 lead at halftime, a penalty from Pascal Gross. However, in the second half Pape Matar Sarr brought Tottenham level just after the hour mark and Brennan Johnson popped up with a goal in the 96th minute to give Tottenham the 2 - 1 win.

However, the next time out saw Tottenham on the wrong end of a 2 - 1 scoreline. Joao Gomes opened the scoring for Wolves just before the halftime whistle but Dejan Kulusevksi equalised just a minute into the second half. Gomes scored again in the second half to secure a 2 - 1 win for Wolves.

Tottenham bounced back against Crystal Palace the next time out. Spurs found themselves behind when Eberechi Eze put The Eagles ahead just before the hour mark. However, goals from Timo Werner, Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min in the last 15 minutes gave Tottenham the 3 - 1 win.

A big game in the battle for Champions League football saw Tottenham take on Aston Villa. After a goalless first half, James Maddison and Johnson gave Tottenham the 2 - 0 lead early in the second half. Following the red card to John McGinn, both Son and Werner popped up with goals in extra time to give Spurs the 4 - 0 win.

The last time out for Tottenham was against Fulham. A brace from Rodrigo Muniz and a goal from Sasa Lukic gave Fulham the shock 3 - 0 win over Spurs.

In their last five games in all competitions, Luton have two draws and three losses.

In the Fifth Round of the FA Cup, Luton hosted fellow Premier League side Manchester City. Jordan Clark did find the back of the net twice for Luton but five goals from Erling Haaland and a goal from Mateo Kovacic gave City the 6 - 2 win.

Back in the Premier League, Luton hosted Aston Villa. A brace from Ollie Watkins gave Villa the 2 - 0 lead at halftime, but goals from Tahith Chong and Carlton Morris made it 2 - 2 with 20 minutes to go. However, an 89th minute goal from Lucas Digne gave Villa the 3 - 2 win.

Luton were behind early against Crystal Palace, with Jean Philippe-Mateta scoring in the 11th minute. However Cauley Woodrow grabbed a goal in the 96th minute to rescue a 1 - 1 draw for Luton.

Goals from Chong, Chiedozie Ogbene and Ross Barkley gave Luton the dominant 3 - 0 lead at halftime. However, the second half saw a collapse like no other as a brace from Antoine Semenyo and goals from Dominic Solanke and Illia Zabarnyi gave Bournemouth the 4 - 3 comeback win.

The most recent outing for Luton was against Nottingham Forest. The Hatters were behind early again, Chris Wood giving Forest the lead at halftime. But an 89th minute goal from Luke Berry grabbed another 1 - 1 draw for Luton.
