BAFTA Film Awards 2019 Odds

Who will win each BAFTA at the 2019 awards?

Awards season is now in full swing and up next is the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA). Taking place at London's Royal Albert Hall, Joanna Lumley will host the event in front of a star studded room which will see the crème de la crème of acting talent from the world of film present.

It will be broadcast live on BBC1 from 9pm on Sunday 10th February, lasting two hours. The odds have been released for who will win each BAFTA and we have taken a look at who the favourites are at the awards this year.

Best Actor

After winning the Golden Globe in the same category, Rami Malek is the odds-on favourite to pick up the BAFTA for best actor. He of course brilliantly portrayed Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody and is now best priced at 8/13 to win the award with Betway, but still faces stiff competition. Christian Bale is the second favourite after his turn as former Vice President of the United States Dick Cheney in Adam McKay's Vice, coming in just behind Malek in the betting with odds of 9/4 with bet365.

Unlike the Oscars, Steve Coogan has been shortlisted for the BAFTA for best actor and is the current third favourite at 11/2 with Unibet. He played the iconic comedy actor Stan Laurel in the film Stan & Ollie which received plenty of praise and stormed to the top of the UK Box Office. Bradley Cooper is also nominated for his role in A Star Is Born, but bookmakers do not fancy his chances with bet365 offering odds of 16/1 for him to win the award. Meanwhile Viggo Mortensen is the final actor featuring in the category, but his performance in Green Book won't be enough to land him the BAFTA according to bookmakers with Unibet going as high as 40/1 for him to win.

Best Actress

The odds in this category are quite different from the odds for best actress at the Oscars. The clear 1/5 favourite to win the Oscar for best actress is Glenn Close (The Wife, however when it comes to the BAFTAs it is Olivia Colman who is the odds-on favourite to pick up the gong for her performance as Queen Anne in The Favourite. The former Peep Show actress is best priced at 4/11 to win this one with Sky Bet, with some bookmakers going as low as 1/4. Close meanwhile is second in what looks to be a two-horse race at 11/4 with Betfair, this one really could go either way with both having won a Golden Globe recently (Colman for best actress in a comedy/musical, Close in the drama category).

Lady Gaga - who will not be attending due to a clash with the Grammys - is third favourite at 14/1 with Unibet after her breakthrough performance in A Star Is Born. The two outsiders in this category are Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) and Viola Davis (Widows). Both are not considered serious contenders for the BAFTA however, with both being priced at high as 50/1 with some bookies.

Best Film

This category looks pretty close in the betting, with four of the five films listed considered to have a real chance of winning with the bookmakers. Ironically The Favourite is currently slight favourite to win it with it being best priced at 11/8 with Sky Bet, just ahead of Netflix's Roma which is 7/4 with William Hill. After picking up the award for best picture (musical/comedy) at the Golden Globes, Green Book is also considered to be in the running to win the BAFTA for best film with several bookmakers offering odds of around 2/1 for Peter Farrelly's picture to win, with the best price being 6/1 with bet365.

A Star Is Born could also stand a chance of winning this award, with odds between 11/2 and 10/1 being offered for the film which smashed the box office and brought in $413.9 million. The outsider is BlacKkKlansman, which was directed by Spike Lee. The 1970's crime drama earned excellent reviews, but won't be able to compete with the other four pictures according to bookmakers, with Sky Bet having it as the 22/1 outsider.

Best Director

If you believe the bookmakers then Alfonso Cuaron has the best director BAFTA sewn up. He is the man behind Roma which has taken Netflix by storm, indeed he used his memories from growing up in Mexico as inspiration for the black and white picture. He is as low as 1/10 with some bookmakers to pick up the award and it is easy to see why. Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favourite) is Cuaron's nearest competitor but is still priced way out at 12/1 with Betway, whilst Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born), Spike Lee (BlacKkKlansman) and Pawel Pawlikoswski (Cold War) have also been nominated but are priced between 16/1 and 33/1.

Best Supporting Actor

Can Sam Rockwell win the best supporting actor BAFTA for the second year in a row? Well the bookmakers seem to think that is unlikely with him way out as 33/1 outsider for his performance in Vice. Instead it looks to be between Mahershala Ali (Green Book) and Richard E. Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) with both extremely close in the betting right now. Ali is the slight favourite at 10/11 with William Hill, whilst Grant is best priced at 11/8 with bet365. Timothee Chalamet (Beautiful Boy) and Adam Driver (BlacKkKlansman) are the other two actors nominated in this category with odds of 12/1 and 33/1 respectively.

Best Supporting Actress

Finally, we come to the award for best-supporting actress, and unlike the BAFTA for best supporting actor this looks a lot closer between the nominees. Rachel Weisz is the slight odds-on favourite at 10/11 with William Hill for her performance in The Favourite, whilst Emma Stone is also in the running for her role in the same film and is the third favourite priced at 11/2. Amy Adams (Vice) is sandwiched in between the pair at 9/4 with bet365, whilst the brilliant Claire Foy is also nominated for her portrayal of Neil Armstrong's wife Janet Shearon in First Man and is 6/1 to pick up the BAFTA, which could be a good price after the rave reviews she received. The only real outsider here is Margot Robbie, who is out at 20/1 after her performance as Queen Elizabeth I in Mary Queen of Scots.
