We are halfway through August and that can only mean one thing.- the Strictly Come Dancing contestants have been announced!
That's right, the summer time isn't just about the return of the EFL and European football, but also one of the nation's most watched TV series. Although the official start date of the show is yet to be confirmed, the Strictly Come Dancing odds have already been released.
Betting on talent shows and TV programmes has massively grown in popularity over the last few years, with Strictly being of no exception. So, how are the outright odds currently shaping up?
Alex Scott the favourite
Picking an outright winner from the off is not always an easy task, as there is always limited footage and performances to judge contestants on.
However, there is always one Strictly Come Dancing favourite that emerges before a tango or waltz have even been thrown. This year's favourite is Alex Scott, who is currently priced at 9/2 to win with SkyBet.
The ex-England footballer is a popular figure with spectators, as the 34-year-old has been the face of women's punditry over the last year. Her pre-exisiting popularity has clearly been an influential factor behind her favourites tag.
TV stars also in run-in
Inevitably, the majority of Strictly contestants this year are TV stars. Just behind Alex Scott in the Strictly Come Dancing odds are Catherine Tyldesley and Jamie Laing, with both figures coming in at 8/1.
Tyldesley, who is known for her appearances on Coronation Street and Laing, the Made in Chelsea star, will be both well-known with viewers.
Another figure who appears on-screen but will perhaps be a little less known with the majority of viewers is Saffron Barker. The Youtube star has 2.9m subscribers online and she may draw in a young fan-base with her. At 8/1, she has also been made one of the frontrunners.
There are two Eastenders's stars taking to the dance floor too. Karim Zeroual, who is just 19, is currently valued at 8/1 to win, whilst fellow colleague Emma Barton, comes through at 10/1 to win with SkyBet.
The two contenders that have been given the biggest outside chance to win with SkyBet are Will Bayley and Mike Bushell. Bayley certainly isn't a name used to being so far away from the top spot, as the Englishman is the no.1 ranked Paralympic table tennis player in the world.
Both men are currently priced as large as 33/1 and 11/1 to finish in the top three.
Another notable figure in the market is David James. The former England goalkeeper has been given an outright price of 16/1 to win the competition. Despite his relatively large odds to be crowned the champion, his 5/1 value to finish inside the top three may tempt fellow punters.
A lot of viewers tend to place their votes based on an individual's personality and they don't come much more lively than the former Manchester City and Portsmouth player.
