Romelu Lukaku Transfer News & Odds

If Romelu Lukaku is to have any say on the matter, his future would almost certainly be in Italy’s financial capital, with Italian champions Inter Milan.

Following on from his £100m move from Inter, Lukaku has hardly hit the ground running. On multiple occasions, he has publicly noted his desire to be playing for the Serie A outfit again, alongside last season’s strike partner Lautaro Martinez.

While the Belgian forward has struggled since his joining the West London Club, his former side have looked relatively indifferent. The signing of Edin Dzeko as a cheap replacement was effective to begin with, however, as bitter rivals AC Milan begin to extend their league at the top of Serie A, Inter may look to bring back last season's top scorer in an attempt to bring glory back to the blue side of Milan.

Following two transfer windows with limited incomings, Inter will no doubt be looking to strengthen again come summer. Most fans would jump at the opportunity to re-sign the centre forward who led them to their first Scudetto in 11 years.

Given the circumstances, it would be far from outrageous to suggest Lukaku could be playing in the famous black and blue of Inter come the start of next season.

With the future of Star forwards Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in doubt as well as Argentine poacher Mauro Icardi not quite setting the world alight, the French club could look to the availability of Lukaku to fill the void in an otherwise star-studded squad.

While the reports regarding Mbappe and Neymar’s contract situation all lean towards both departing the French capital, Lukaku could look to a move across the channel in hope for a more successful time working alongside Lionel Messi and co.

PSG’s extensively deep pockets mean they are unlikely to be priced out of a move for the forward if they are to look towards his services in hope for challenging for the Champions League.

While his speed may not be comparable to Mbappe or his dribbling ability to that of Neymar’s, historically his goal-scoring ability is one of the best in Europe and would no doubt provide an extra edge to an otherwise slightly underperforming PSG front-line if they are to re-ignite him.

Since the departure of Mike Ashley and the subsequent takeover from billionaire shareholders PIF, Newcastle’s name will likely feature in any major player’s transfer speculation for the next few seasons, while they begin to build a squad befitting their newfound wealth.

With the £20m signing of Chris Wood from relegation rivals Burnley looking more like a flex of their affluence than a long-drawn-out transfer plan, as well as the majority of current number nine Callum Wilson’s time being spent on the physio’s table, Newcastle will certainly be looking into the market for a new striker to lead the line for the foreseeable future.

Lukaku’s build and play style certainly suits the current situation at Newcastle, his effectiveness in hold-up play combined with his goal-scoring ability makes him a prime player to start at centre forward for Eddie Howe’s team.

Lukaku’s experience not only in the Premier League but also in Europe will provide Newcastle with a great catalyst to build around. With the inexperience at a higher level of the current team, chasing Lukaku’s signature would give star player Alan Saint-Maximum, among others and potential other incomings, an experienced and effective player to develop alongside.

Looking at the current crop of players Spurs have in their first team and who they’ll be shopping for when the transfer window opens in summer, an elite striker of Lukaku’s calibre is not the first player that comes to mind.

The form of Harry Kane has drastically improved since the turn of the year and with the ever-reliable Son Heung-Min as well as the signing of Dejan Kulusevski in January, the front line is likely the last thing Spurs need to improve.

However, with the future of Kane not crystal clear following multiple attempts to join champions Manchester City in the previous summer, as well as the Three Lions captain also being linked to Manchester United, Lukaku could be a great option to replace him if he is to leave.

Spurs manager Antonio Conte also worked with Lukaku previously at Inter where they formed an excellent working relationship, with Conte relying heavily on Lukaku and his goal threat to carry them to the title. If given the option, Lukaku would no doubt look to link up with his former manager even if it means joining London rivals Spurs.
