End of Season La Liga Specials

The La Liga officially returns this Thursday and the excitement is certainly mounting.

With eleven games to play, there is plenty on the line. Just two points separate Barcelona and Real Madrid at the top of the table, with an equally intriguing battle taking place for fourth position.

At the bottom of the table, Espanyol sit on twenty points, just nine behind 15th placed Real Valladolid. To be blunt, there's plenty to play for up and down the league.

When analysing their run-in, it does look pretty favourable. Seven of their remaining fixtures are against those in the bottom half, with just one away trip to a side in the current top six.

With no El Clasico and the title being in their hands, odds of 5/2 for Messi to get the business done can be regarded as quite the generous price.

No club in La Liga has lost more games this season than Real Mallorca - 16.

In 2020, they have five defeats in nine games, winning just three times. They currently sit 18th at the time of writing and survival is looking bleak.

At 100/30 to gain the fewest points from here on out stands out due to the above stat, but also when you see who they have to face. Their first game back is against top of the league Barcelona, then followed by a trip to Villarreal - a side that have won three of their last five at home.

It doesn't get any easier from there either, with away ties still to come against Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla. All three teams are inside the top six and will be huge favourites in these set of fixtures.

In twenty-seven league games this season, Leganes have scored just twenty-one times - the worst record in the division. Before the season came to a halt, they had drawn a blank in five of their last eight.

Predominantly operating with five at the back, Javier Aguirre tends to operate with a very defensive formation. Their defensive record (39 conceded) is reasonably respectful, but it has clearly come at a price.

There has been little to suggest that their fortunes in-front of goal will improve when football resumes, when looking at the above stat. They still have to face Barcelona, Sevilla, Valencia and Real Madrid, teams that often dominate possession in games.

At 8/1, this is the largest selection on our list, but one the stats justify.
