Chelsea came into the Premier League as one of the favourites to win the title as the reigning champions of Europe and will be coming into this season full of confidence that they can make significant improvements, especially considering their recent signing of Romelu Lukaku.
Meanwhile, Leicester City have narrowly missed out on the top four in back-to-back seasons and started their season brightly with a 1-0 home win against a Wolverhampton Wanderers side that will be expected to push for the top seven. Brendan Rodgers’ side have managed to keep all of their star players, as well as adding the likes of Boubakary Soumare, Patson Daka, Ryan Bertrand and Jannik Vestergaard to their ranks.
Mohamed Salah has already managed to notch up his first Premier League goal of the season in a 3-0 victory over Norwich City on the opening day. The Egyptian managed 22 goals last time out and has the record of scoring the most times since the league moved to a 20-team format, with 32 in his debut season in 2017/18.
Jack Grealish has been one of the stars of the English top-flight in the last two seasons, as last time out he managed six goals and 12 assists in 26 appearances for Aston Villa, hence why Manchester City forked out a British record transfer fee of £100m. Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho made a small cameo appearance against Leeds on the opening day for United, the 21-year-old England winger made 64 assists in 137 matches for Dortmund and will be hoping to replicate this sort of form at Old Trafford.
Norwich City failed to impress on the opening day against a Liverpool side that was missing the likes of Joe Gomez, Andy Robertson, Thiago, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, as the Canaries were comfortably beaten 3-0. Daniel Farke’s men look very similar to the team that was relegated in the 2019/20 season with 21 points, as they were shaky defensively and very ineffective in attack due to a reluctance to commit numbers forward when crossing the ball into the box.
