Since Mario Mandzukic retired from international football following their heroic run in Russia, manager Zlatko Dalic has not found a true replacement for the man who bagged the winner in the semi-final versus England. Many fancy Dinamo Zagreb striker Bruno Petkovic to get the nod while prolific Hoffenheim forward Andrej Kramaric may be utilised better from the bench, while Serie A wingers Ivan Perisic and Ante Rebic both have a keen eye for a goal.
At 4/1, Kramaric is the favourite to be Croatia’s top scorer, and it is not hard to see why following a fifth consecutive season in which he has scored double-figures for goals in the Bundesliga.
This season was his most successful yet, notching 20 goals in just 28 appearances, taking his Bundesliga tally to 82 in just 160 matches, many of which have been substitute appearances too. At the start of the season, Kramaric scored 13 goals in just six games for his club, proving he is capable of rapid bursts of form, and the Croats will hope for some of that this summer from him.
Ivan Perisic, priced at 8/1, got three goals at the last World Cup, including goals in the semi-final and the final, making him Croatia’s joint-top scorer with Mandzukic, while at 9/1, AC Milan’s Rebic was another man who got himself on the scoresheet three years ago, and he also enjoyed a good finale to the Serie A season, scoring a wonder goal away to Juventus and a hat-trick against Torino.
