Goalkeeper: Nick Pope

Many fans up and down the country are calling for Nick Pope to be England's number one on the back of his performances this season.

The Burnley goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets than anybody else in the league, helping guide Burnley to another solid campaign in the top-flight. Although he plays in a rather defensive looking side, there can be no denying the importance of this statistic.

When you delve deeper into the stats too, you find that only five other keepers have made more saves this season, whilst he is also at the top of 'high claims' made.

The Clarets clearly find themselves facing high amounts of pressure, due to their deep block, but that's because they can rely on Pope to do the business in between the sticks.

Honourable mention: Dean Henderson.

Right-back: Trent Alexander-Arnold

It was a tough task deciding on a right-back, as it depends on what you look for in your full-backs.

If it was purely based on defensive attributes, Aaron Wan Bissaka would get the nod, but when looking at the overall picture and the influence Arnold has on his Liverpool side, it's hard to overlook the 21-year-old.

His fourteen assists this season is looked upon with envy from some of Europe's most talented wingers, with Arnold offering a constant threat down his side's right flank.

The Reds rely heavily on their offensive full-backs, and Jurgen Klopp's dominating team wouldn't have the same look to it, without the Englishman.

Center back: Virgil van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk has set the standards for defenders over the last year, establishing himself as one of the best players in world football.

The Dutchman has not dropped his level this season either, being at the heart of Liverpool's record breaking campaign. No team has conceded less goals than the Reds in the league, with Van Dijk playing his part in that.

Whilst his defensive partner has changed throughout, the 28-year-old's quality has simply remained. You start to run out superlatives when describing Van Dijk, making his selection a no-brainer.

Center back: Jack O'Connell

Sheffield United have enjoyed a dream season back in the Premier League, with their defensive resilience being a key factor behind their impressive standing in 7th position.

Jack O'Connell has not missed a single minute so far, playing an integral role on the left side of Chris Wilder's back three. Whilst a case can be made for any of the Blades' defenders, O'Connell's ball playing attributes gets him the nod.

The Englishman has every chance in making Gareth Southgate's next squad, that's how impressive and composed he has looked.

Left-back: Andrew Robertson

Parallel to Arnold, Andrew Robertson's influence on the league leaders makes him an impossible selection to overlook.

The Scotsman has missed just one game this season, contributing to eight goals along the way. It's fair to say that the 26-year-old is as well rounded as they come when we're analysing full-backs, as he flourishes in both his defensive and attacking attributes.

There isn't too much competition when it comes to left-backs in the division either, making his selection quite the straightforward one.

Right wing: Mohammed Salah

Whilst it sometimes feels as though Mohammed Salah can go missing in certain periods of games, there can be no denying the numbers he continuously puts up.

With sixteen goals and six assists to his name this season, the Egyptian has once again been one of the league's most dangerous attackers. Drifting in from the right flank, Salah continues to be Klopp's main source of goals, getting into the box and making the difference when it matters.

He has been a key part in Liverpool's best ever Premier League season, and the side would be no way near their eighty-two points tally, without his goals.

Central midfield: Kevin De Bruyne

A no brainer with this selection.

Many believe that Kevin De Bruyne has actually been the best player in the Premier League this season, with his statistics of sixteen assists and six goals supporting such a statement.

It isn't just about the stats when it comes to the Belgian though, as he is a constant attacking threat from Manchester City's midfield. He picks up the pockets inside the final third so well, helping his side continuously tick over onto the front foot.

No side is yet to conjure a system that nullify's De Bruyne's impact as of yet, speaking volumes to both his technical brilliance and ability of reading the game.

Kevin-de-bruyne

Central midfield: Jack Grealish

For most players, it would be hard to shine in a side that currently finds them inside the relegation zone, but in Jack Grealish's case, it's been quite the opposite.

The Englishman has reeled in all the plaudits this season, operating on the left side of a midfield three. From dropping deep to help with his defensive duties to carrying the ball forward in attack, Grealish often dominates the left flank in games, with his presence always being noticed.

Some will argue against selecting a player that features for a club fighting relegation, but based on his individual displays and importance to his team, Grealish's influence is up there with the very best in the league.

Left wing: Sadio Mane

It's fair to say that Liverpool's team is on top due to their hard-working attitude, alongside a touch of quality in the final third. No player in the squad epitomises that more than Sadio Mane.

The Senegalese international is arguably his team's most important player, as not only does he consistently put up goalscoring numbers, he never shies away from his defensive duties either.

Out on the left, Mane enjoys cutting in and getting into goalscoring positions, often switching with Roberto Firmino down the middle too. He is so integral to Liverpool's shape and on his day, gets into any team across Europe.

Striker: Jamie Vardy

He just doesn't stop does he?

Sitting on top of the Premier League top scorers chart is no other than Jamie Vardy. The Foxes' legend has been up to his recent tricks this season, being a constant threat for his side by making those runs in-behind.

Brendan Rodgers has been carefully managing the Englishman, with his retirement from international duties clearly favouriting Leicester this season. With nineteen goals in twenty-six games, it's been another successful campaign for the talisman.

As of now, he is the favourite for the golden boot, meaning he has to be at least one of two strikers, in our team of the season.

Striker: Sergio Aguero

He may not be the top scorer, but Sergio Aguero has the best goals to game ratio out of everybody that has reached double digits in the league this season.

It might have been a disappointing campaign for City, but talking about individual seasons, the Argentinian continues to find the back of the net more clinically than anybody else.

Agüero has managed sixteen goals in just 1,401 minutes, and that's without mentioning his three assists on top too.

Honourable mention: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
