One lucky punter earned themselves a huge win on Tuesday night's football fixtures. The customer remains unnamed, but they backed a six-fold accumulator with William Hill and each of the selections were teams to win a match.
The stake was just £10 and it was placed in-play at 20:01, 16 minutes into all six matches at which point they were all still 0-0. The odds were initially around 1200/1, but a late Huddersfield Town goal earned the punter an extra £6000 using the bookmakers exclusive Bet Boost feature.
In total they therefore managed to win a whopping £18,402.73 , not a bad little mid-week bonus!
Which football teams did the punter bet on?
Tuesday was actually quite a difficult day to select a winning bet, with many of the favourites failing to win. Two clubs who were heavily backed by most were Leeds United and Wolves who were up against Queens Park Rangers and Huddersfield Town respectively - both away from home.
However, the punter in question opted to back the underdogs and selected Huddersfield to win at 4/1 - despite the Terriers having not won since November - and QPR whose odds were out at 11/4 and had lost seven in a row prior to that match.
Rangers scored early on in the second half and ended up winning 1-0, but the Terriers game must have left the customer sweating. Indeed they were locked level with Wolves at 0-0 until a 90th minute Steve Mounie goal sealed all three points for Huddersfield and ultimately this lucky customer £18k.
Huddersfield and QPR were not the only underdogs they backed either. Birmingham City were away at fellow play-off chasers Bristol City and priced at 11/4 whilst Shrewsbury Town, struggling to avoid relegation in League One took on play-off hopefuls Doncaster Rovers and priced at 19/10. The punter stuck his neck out on both counts and backed both teams which paid off as they won 2-1 and 2-0.
Sheffield Wednesday were also a surprisingly high price given their upturn in form since Steve Bruce took charge. They took on Brentford, who have won just one away game all season yet were given odds of 9/5 which the punter took full advantage of. The Owls went on to win comfortably, with the game finishing 2-0 at Hillsborough.
The only favourite the punter backed was Everton, who took on Cardiff City away from home. They were priced at 23/20 to win the game so the odds were still quite good and it took some guts to back the Toffees given that they had lost three fixtures in a row going into their match in the Welsh capital.
Fair play, this was some bet!
