Four months after dispatching of ex-MMA world champion, Ben Askren, Paul will return to the ring in what will be his fourth boxing bout in just over a year. The American has now beaten AnEsonGib, Nate Robinson and Askren, all of whom he has knocked out within two rounds as he has made easy work of absolutely every second in the ring.
Against Woodley, however, it finally seems as if Paul has his first real test. Let's be real, AnEsonGib shouldn't have been allowed to lace a pair of gloves, Robinson was a vastly inferior boxer and man of stature, whilst Askren was an overweight, retired wrestling expert off the back of hip surgery and ultimately had no chance.
Woodley, on the other hand, is still active and ready to go. The ex-UFC welterweight king isn't on form, however, with his last win being almost three years old by the time the two meet in August, but despite a four-fight losing streak, Woodley is still moulded in a ruthless training camp year on year.
This is going to be an interesting one. Once again, Paul has been very tactical with who he has chosen in picking a man way off form, but with a serious CV in fighting who is also the smaller man. In fact, once again, Paul is the taller man by three inches, and despite Woodley having to cut a bit of weight to reach 170 lbs in MMA, he is still unlikely to enter this bout any heavier than 190 lbs, whilst Paul hit 190 in his last bout.
Askren was awful last time out, and Woodley won't have that approach. He'll bring it to the 24-year-old and just like he did against Vicente Luque, Woodley is going to go out all guns blazing in the first few minutes, which could only play into Paul's hands.
The YouTube star will need his power to come out in all its glory this time and rather than rely on a simple overhand right as he did against Askren, he's going to need combinations throughout and hope his boxing ability is vastly superior to Woodley's, which it just might be.
Paul's price is constantly changing, but he remains below EVENS and the favourite in this - he is priced at 4/7 as of 01/07/21.
