The bookmakers aren't expecting a fairytale ending for Silva. Betfair have given the Spider an underdog outright price of 7/4.
On paper, the Brazilian has lost 6 of his last 8 fights (one of his victories was overturned after testing positive for drostanolone and androsterone). These losses span over seven years, with his two most recent coming against Jared Cannonier and Israel Adesanya.
Silva went three rounds with the latter, something we now consider a success, given the dominating nature of the Last Stylebender. Many saw this fight as 'the torch being passed over', with the much sharper and quick-witted Adesanya outscoring the veteran.
His loss to Cannonier came via a leg kick - it was a perfectly executed snapshot from the Killa Gorilla, but perhaps one Silva could have taken, a few years prior. This was the first time that the Brazilian had been finished since his back-to-back defeats to Chris Weidman - these two losses came from showboating and a freak injury.
The Spider's last win came before Izzy, when he defeated Derek Brunson on points. With all of the context considered, finishing and outskilling Silva still remains an incredibly difficult task.
