The 2019 World Snooker Championship gets underway on 20th April, with the best players on the planet descending on Sheffield in a bid to win the biggest title in the sport.
Taking place at the famous Crucible theatre, 32 players will battle it out on the baize for two weeks in order to become world champion and win a cheque for £500,000.
Mark Williams is the defending champion, with the Welshman having beaten John Higgins in last years final. It was the 44-year-old's third world title and it came 15 years after his last one in 2003.
He faces serious competition to retain his crown though, and will need to improve his form if he is to do so having not enjoyed his most prolific season.
We have taken a look at the odds for this years tournament, to see who bookmakers think the favourites are to lift the title.
Ronnie O'Sullivan favourite to win sixth World Championship
The favourite to win the 2019 World Snooker Championship is, somewhat predictably, Ronnie O'Sullivan. He is best priced at 5/2 to win the tournament with Sky Bet, and when you take a look at his form for this season it is easy to see why.
O'Sullivan has won five titles this season, including a seventh UK Championship back in December and the recent Tour Championship. What makes this even more impressive is the fact that he has only entered 10 tournaments this season, so has won 50% of competitions he has played in.
He has also reached two finals and a semi-final on top of his victories, which shows just how well the 43-year-old is playing this year.
The Rocket is therefore very much the man to beat at the Crucible, and he will be desperate to win it in order to close the gap to Stephen Hendry's record. He won seven World Championship's during his career whilst O'Sullivan is currently on five.
He hasn't won this title since 2013 and hasn't been beyond the quarter-finals since 2014, so he will need to improve on recent performances in Sheffield. But based on how he is playing this year, he will surely go close to a sixth world crown.
Judd Trump and Neil Robertson are serious contenders
In terms of players likely to challenge O'Sullivan for the title, there are three that immediately spring to mind. The first is arguably the form player on the tour right now, Neil Robertson.
After a few seasons which have seen him struggle both on the baize and in his personal life, the Thunder from Down Under has been back to his brilliant best this season. He began the campaign by winning the Riga Masters and has added two more titles since, the Welsh Open and China Open which he won just a couple of weeks ago.
The Aussie has also reached three finals, two of which he lost to O'Sullivan, as well as the semi-finals of the Masters. Because of his excellent results this year, his odds to win the World Snooker Championship have steadily been cut. Indeed he was priced way out at 20/1 when the market first opened, but his odds are now as low as 5/1 with most bookmakers, some of whom have him as second favourite.
Robertson is also a former world champion having won this title in 2010, so he certainly knows how to get the job done at the Crucible.
Another player who has been in great form this season is Judd Trump. Like Robertson he has also won three titles this season, the Northern Ireland Open, the World Grand Prix and most significantly the Masters.
It was the second 'Triple Crown' event that the 29-year-old has won in his career having earlier won the UK Championship. That means that he only has one left to win to complete the set, the World Championship.
He will be desperate to do that this year to cap off what has been a fine year and he does have a decent record at the Crucible. He has finished as runner-up once as well as making two semi-finals and a couple of quarter-finals in the last eight years, but always seems to come up just short.
Winning the Masters will have given him huge confidence however that he can beat the best players in the game, and bookmakers fancy his chances this year too. He is priced at 5/1 with bet365 to win the title, making him the joint second favourite alongside Robertson.
