Stockport County vs MK Dons Prediction & Betting Tips

Stockport County host MK Dons at Edegley Park this Saturday in League Two. Both sides are in the thick of the fight for automatic promotion and need a big three points to close in on Mansfield.

            Date: 23/03/2024

            Kick-off time: 17:15

            Location: Edegley Park

The top of the League Two table is tight with the top four only separated by five points, with three of those teams all on the same amount of points. This makes this game a potential six-point affair for the winner.

Stockport County currently sit second in League Two after 36 games. The Hatters have 19 wins, ten draws and seven losses, leaving them on 67 points, equal with Wrexham and MK Dons and five points from Mansfield at the top of the table. However, Stockport do have two games in hand on The Stags.

The Hatters have been amongst the goals this season, scoring 69 goals in 36 games, giving them an average of 1.92 goals a game. Stockport have been just as good at the other end of the pitch, conceding just 39 goals and keeping 13 clean sheets.

MK Dons sit just below Stockport in fourth in League Two. In 39 games, The Dons have 20 wins, seven draws and 12 losses which leaves them on 67 points, level with Wrexham and Stockport, three points ahead of Crewe and five points behind Mansfield.

The Dons have underperformed in front of goal relative to their spot on the table, scoring 63 goals in 39 games, an average of 1.62 goals a game. Defensively MK Dons have also been somewhat underwhelming, conceding 49 goals and keeping just seven clean sheets.

Stockport and MK Dons have met 11 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in 2004. MK Dons have the better record in the fixture with seven wins in comparison to Stockport’s four wins. There is yet to be a draw in the fixture.

The last three games in this fixture have seen two MK Dons wins and one Stockport win. However, all three of these games have seen both teams on the scoresheet and every game has had at least three goals.

            Recent Form

In their last five games in all competitions, Stockport have one win, three draws and one loss.

The trip to Tranmere was one to forget for Stockport. Tom Davies’s goal gave Tranmere the lead at halftime and a brace from Jordan Turnbull and a goal from Connor Jennings in the second half wrapped up a 4 - 0 win for Tranmere.

The clash against Gillingham saw both Stockport and Gillingham only manage one shot on target each. Neither side could convert either of their singular shots on target as they had to settle for a 0 - 0 draw.

The visit from Swindon Town was another 0 - 0 draw for Stockport. However, this time Stockport had 20 shots with eight of those shots on target in 69% of the possession, but it still wasn’t enough for Stockport as the game finished in a goalless draw.

Stockport bounced back the next time out against Newport County. This time Stockport had 25 shots with 14 of them on target and Paddy Madden finally managed to convert one of those shots in the 93rd minute to grab a 1 - 0 win for Stockport.

However, it was back to drawing for Stockport. Luke Garbutt and Curtis Tilt both scored in the first half to give Salford City the 2 - 0 lead at halftime. In the second half Ibou Touray and Isaac Olaofe managed to find the back of the net to rescue the 2 - 2 draw for Stockport.
Stockport also face Crawley Town on Monday in League Two.

In their last five games in all competitions, MK Dons have three wins and two losses.

Despite MK Dons having ten shots and 65% of the possession, Ronan Curtis found the back of the net for the only goal of the game in the 94th minute to give Wimbledon the 1 - 0 win.

A big game at the top of the table saw MK Dons take on Mansfield. Stephen Quinn opened the scoring for Mansfield in the 15th minute but Alex Gilbey equalised within five minutes to make it level at halftime. However, Matthew Dennis scored early in the second half to secure a big 2 - 1 win.

MK Dons went behind again against Salford with Matt Smith’s goal in the 12th minute. Kyran Lofthouse and Gilbey put MK Dons in the lead and an own goal from Smith himself gave MK Dons the 3 - 1 win.

Justin Obikwu scored the only goal of the game in the 33rd minute to give Grimsby Town the 1 - 0 win, with MK Dons managing just one shot on target in 79% of the possession.

The last time out for MK Dons was against Crewe Alexandra. Dennis opened the scoring for The Dons in the fifth minute but Elliott Nevitt equalised before the 20-minute mark. However, Dennis scored again and Stephen Wearne grabbed a goal in the 3 - 1 win for MK Dons.
