Pau Torres Transfer News & Odds

Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres is a name on many clubs' minds this summer following another impressive campaign for his hometown club that saw them reach the Champions League semi-finals.

Notably, in the 2020/21 season, Torres was part of the Villarreal side that beat Manchester United in the Europa League final on penalties, putting in a superb performance next to veteran centre-back Raul Albiol. The 25-year-old has made 102 league appearances for the Yellow Submarine since making his debut in November 2017 and reportedly has a release clause of £55million.

Manchester United Odds: 6/4

It is no surprise to see that United are the favourites to sign Torres having been heavily linked with the Spaniard last summer before they signed Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.

United have defensive issues which Erik ten Hag will be keen to fix, as the Old Trafford club leaked 57 goals in 38 matches, their worst-ever record in the Premier League era following a disastrous season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick having initially been tipped for a title challenge at the start of the campaign.

With the likes of Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe and Eric Bailly all set to leave this summer, Torres would easily fit into the squad, especially considering the fact that he is a left-footed centre-back, on top of the fact that he has leadership qualities, something of which United’s current squad badly lacks.

Tottenham Hotspur Odds: 5/1

Tottenham are also rumoured to be in the running for Torres, as Antonio Conte looks to improve his squad following their qualification for the Champions League next season.

According to reports, Spurs are set to have £150m to invest both on and off the pitch and will be keen to improve on the 40 goals that they conceded last season by adding in a left-sided centre back for their five at the back system to play alongside the likes of Cristian Romero who impressed throughout the whole of last campaign.

With being on the verge of landing Ivan Perisic on a free transfer from Inter Milan, could a move for Pau Torres be Spurs’ next move?

Spurs are priced at 5/1 to sign Torres for the 2022/23 season.

Chelsea Odds: 8/1

The Spaniard has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge due to the exodus of defenders that Thomas Tuchel could see in the summer.

According to reports, the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, Marcos Alonso and Andreas Christensen could follow Antonio Rudiger out of the door at Stamford Bridge which would leave the club with a large void that they would need to fill.

Torres would be ideal for the club due to his leadership qualities at the back, on top of the fact that it is often seen as important to have matching feet for each side of the back three, with left-footed Torres set to play at left-centre-back.

Torres is priced at 8/1 to move from Estadio de la Ceramica to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Manchester City Odds: 12/1

Manchester City have reportedly considered making a move for Pau Torres despite having a plethora of players that can play at centre-back.

With the likes of Ruben Dias, John Stone, Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake on the boos it is difficult to see where the 25-year-old would fit in, however, as we have seen on many occasions, due to a shortage of high-quality full-backs in their ranks, Pep Guardiola has often used the likes of John Stones and Nathan Ake as cover for both Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo.

Throughout this career, Guardiola has always had a tendency to make purchases from his homeland, having signed the likes of Nolito, Rodri and Ferran Torres for City, on top of Thiago, Xabi Alonso and Juan Bernat whilst at Bayern Munich.

City are priced at 12/1 to acquire Torres from Villarreal.
