Crystal Palace vs Manchester City Prediction & Betting Tips

Selhurst Park hosts Crystal Palace and Manchester City this Saturday in the early kick-off in the Premier League. City look to close in on the top spot in the table, whereas Palace aim to build a bigger gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

          Date: 06/04/2024

          Kick off time: 12:30

          Location: Selhurst Park

The title race is in full force and after the draw against Arsenal, City are looking for a big win to get back in pursuit of Liverpool. Palace, however, are looking towards the mid table rather than the drop zone.

Crystal Palace currently sit 14th in the Premier League after 30 games. The Eagles have seven wins, nine draws and 14 losses, leaving them on 30 points, eight points from the relegation zone.

The Eagles have struggled in front of goal this season, scoring 34 goals in 30 games giving them the average of 1.13 goals a game. However, Palace have been better defensively, conceding 50 goals and keeping six clean sheets.

Man City, on the other hand, currently sit third in the Premier League. In 30 games, City have 20 wins, seven draws and three losses which leaves them on 67 points, one point from the top of the table Liverpool who play Sheffield United at Anfield tonight.

City have been amongst the goals this season, scoring 67 goals and having an average of 2.23 goals a game. Man City have been just as consistent in defence, conceding 29 goals and keeping eight clean sheets.

Crystal Palace and Man City have met 60 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in the 1921 FA Cup. City have the better record in the fixture with 37 wins in comparison to Palace’s 17 wins, with a draw also common, happening on 16 occasions.

In fact, The Eagles haven’t beaten City since their shock 2 - 0 win back in 2021, and before that it was back in 2018. However, this fixture has seen more draws recently, twice in the last four meetings.

Oliver Glasner will be without Sam Johnstone, Cheick Doucoure, Rob Holding, Marc Guehi, Matheus Franca and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi. However, key man for Palace Michael Olise can return this weekend.

          Manchester City Team News

Pep Guardiola will likely be without John Stones and Kyle Walker this weekend after both defenders picked up an injury on international duty with England. During their 0-0 draw with Arsenal, Netherlands international Nathan Ake was substituted due to injury, meaning that Rico Lewis could potentially start for City at Selhurst Park.

          Recent Form

In their last six games in all competitions, Crystal Palace have one win, three draws and two losses.

Despite having just 37% of the possession, Crystal Palace took the lead over Everton through Jordan Ayew just minutes after the hour mark. However, with just minutes to go Everton’s Amadou Onana found the back of the net to rescue a 1 - 1 draw for The Toffees.

Palace bounced back on home turf against Burnley. The first half saw no goals but did see Josh Brownhill sent off for The Clarets. In the second half, however, Chris Richards, Ayew and Jean-Philippe Mateta all scored in the 3 - 0 win for The Eagles.

However, the trip to North London the next time out saw Palace come away with no points. Eberechi Eze did open the scoring for Crystal Palace just before the hour mark but Timo Werner, Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min all scored in the last 15 minutes to give Tottenham the 3 - 1 win.

The Eagles were once again the team to go in front, this time Mateta finding the back of the net in the 11th minute. Palace held this lead until the end of normal time, but a goal from Cauley Woodrow in the 96th minute grabbed a 1 - 1 draw for Luton Town.

The return to the Premier League from the international break saw Palace travel to Nottingham Forest. Mateta was on the scoresheet again, again in the 11th minute. However, a goal from Chris Wood just after the hour mark handed Palace yet another 1 - 1 draw.

Crystal Palace suffered a tame 1-0 loss away at Bournemouth on Tuesday night as Justin Kluivert's 79th-minute strike sealed all three points. During this game, the Eagles managed just three shots to the Cherries' 11.

In their last six games in all competitions, Man City have four wins and two draws.

The Manchester derby saw City host Manchester United, where The Red Devils took an early lead through Marcus Rashford in the eighth minute. However, in the second half, a brace from Phil Foden and an extra time goal from Erling Haaland gave City the 3 - 1 win.

The second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 saw a visit from Copenhagen. Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez were both on the scoresheet before the tenth minute but Mohamed Elyounoussi got Copenhagen on the scoresheet before the 30 minute mark. The goal from Haaland then secured the 3 - 1 win on the night and the 6 - 2 win on aggregate for City.

Back in the Premier League, City made the trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool. Stones opened the scoring for City but a penalty from Alexis Mac Allister early in the second half forced a 1 - 1 draw.

The FA Cup Quarter Finals saw City host fellow Premier League side Newcastle. City restricted The Magpies to just two shots with one on target and 27% of the possession and Bernardo Silva scored twice to give City the 2 - 0 win and the spot in the next round.

The Etihad hosted a big game at the top of the table as City took on Arsenal. Man City could only manage one shot on target in 12 attempts as the game finished in a 0 - 0 draw.

Man City thrashed Aston Villa 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night thanks to a goal by Rodri and a hat-trick by Phil Foden. The England international has now scored 21 goals across all competitions this campaign.
