Our National League Tips for the Weekend - 30/10/21

The table-topping Grimsby Town will be looking to return to winning ways when they welcome Notts County to Blundell Park on Saturday. The hosts slipped to only their second National League defeat of the season on Tuesday, after a 1-0 loss away to Wealdstone.

The Mariners are still at the summit of the standings though, with four wins in their last five league games. Paul Hurst’s side sit a point above second-placed Chesterfield and two in front of Boreham Wood in third. Notts County should be a tough test for Grimsby, who themselves are chasing a promotion play-off spot.

The Magpies are one place off the top seven, level on points with Dagenham and Redbridge above them. With Bromley just one point away in sixth and Solihull Moors just three away in fifth, a win could see Ian Burchnall’s men leap up into the top five, if results go their way. That may not be the case though, against a strong Grimsby side that are aiming to bounce straight back up to League Two this season.

Boreham Wood will be trying to keep chase with the National League front runners at the top of the table as they entertain a struggling Southend and Meadow Lane this weekend.

The Wood sit in third after three wins in their last five and another three points today - depending on other results - could see them end the weekend at the top of the table.

They managed a win away to Kings Lynn in midweek, after a narrow loss against Chesterfield last weekend in a fierce encounter between the league’s second and third-placed teams. Scott Bowden is Boreham Wood’s top scorer with five goals to his name so far this season and he got the early winner on Tuesday and will be hoping to add to his tally against a Southend side that have lost four out of their last five league games and sit third from bottom.

It’s looking like a grim campaign for rock-bottom Dover as Stockport travel to the Crabble Stadium on Saturday and can pile on even more misery on them.

Dover’s miserable season continues, with the Kent outfit sitting on minus nine points and without a win after 11 fixtures so far. The Whites have lost their last four in a row, including the last two games at home to fellow relegation battling Aldershot and Barnet.

Dover have also only managed just six league goals up to now, as their position looks unmovable. Stockport have the chance to return to form and push on in the fight for a play-off spot. County have lost their last two in a row and have fell to tenth, five points away from the top seven. A win against a weak Dover side would put them back on the right track.

Second-placed Chesterfield could go top of the National League with a win as they face a tricky Dagenham & Redbridge side at Victoria Road this weekend.

The hosts come into the game after losing four of the last five. Whilst the 3-0 win against Southend last week was a high point, it wasn’t enough to turn Dag & Red’s form around, as they lost to fellow promotion hopefuls, FC Halifax, in midweek. It leaves the Daggers clinging on to a play-off spot on goal difference with plenty of teams sniffing around them.

Chesterfield, however, are in a good run of form as they battle for the top spot. They’ve won four of their last five in all competitions and can put pressure on Grimsby and Boreham Wood with big win on Saturday.

Another of the top five are in action this weekend, with fifth-placed Solihull Moors aiming to continue their strong run of form when they host Yeovil Town at Damson Park.

The Moors have won four on the bounce in all competitions, unbeaten in their last five National League fixtures and their 2-1 win away to Altrincham on Tuesday came after a massive win against FC Halifax at home last weekend.

Joe Sbarra has been in fine form for Neal Ardley’s side this season, firing in eight goals in his 13 league appearances. Sbarra got the winner in midweek and will be wanting to add to his tally against a Yeovil team that have just one win in their last five, hovering in 14th spot in the table.
