Following Lionel Messi’s departure from Barcelona last week, Antoine Griezmann looks likely to become the next high profile exit from the Nou Camp. News broke in Barca’s press statement announcing that Messi would no longer play for the club stating that they were unable to register the Argentinian due to La Liga’s financial rules which says that Barcelona’s player salaries must equate to a maximum of 70% of their revenue, without Messi they are at 95%.
Griezmann has been seen as a scapegoat for Messi’s departure due to being the second-highest earner at the club on around €880,000 per week pre-tax. According to Spanish news outlet Cuatro, the 30-year-old was booed upon his arrival to the training ground. With Griezmann being made surplus to requirements last summer by Ronald Koeman before a U-turn by the Dutchman, it is likely that the 2018 World Cup winner will head this year’s list due to the arrivals of Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay.
