Sheffield United are said to be interested in a loan deal for Lingard for the rest of the season, and judging by their recent struggles in terms of lacking in creativity, it could be a shrewd signing for Chris Wilder.
After enduring the worst start ever to a top flight season, scoring just eight goals in 17 fixtures and without a win up until this point, Lingard could provide the missing link between the midfield and the attack that has so often been the downfall this season. Right now, the Blades are on course to break Derby County's record of 11 points in a Premier League season, where the Rams won just one game all season long, so, it's fair to say they could do with almost anybody right now.
With his wage demands said to be around £100,000, a loan deal is seemingly the only option for the Yorkshire side, but they are currently the favoured destination at 2/1. Would it be a good move for Lingard? Perhaps not. But at 27, far, far from United's starting XI, perhaps it's his only choice.
